I can say without hesitation that ALX.exe is certainly worth the 1 min amount of work involved. Even just AI grouping its stacks and retraining is enough for me, always having meaningful battles. :)

Hmm..maybe I should buy Alexander after all..

Playing on BI.exe myself actually.

Very nice right now - 24 votes, 8 RTW, 8 BI, 8 Alex. Incredible!:dizzy2:

My vote has been BI.exe

It just feels better with it.

I use Alex.exe right now. Overall it is the best of both worlds for me.

BI - Pros:
-I enjoy the naval invasions from BI, because the AI will use naval forces to actively "invade" your territory or re-take formerly conquered territory. This forces me to build a navy and fight sea battles actively to prevent the AI from invading my land with a full stack of troops. there is no better feeling than sinking a carthaginian ship full of elite african pikemen when they are traveling to invade corsica.

BI - Cons:
-the AI, just with the land attacks, do not know when to "stop" attacking once a ceasefire has been dealt. The AI mostly ignores the ceasefire and will keep invading once he has enough troops built up.

Alex - Pros:
-the AI only uses naval forces much more efficiently and defensively. It will swiftly ship hordes of troops to any lands threatened overseas.

-I know there have been some hot debates about retraining. I believe that Alex is the only version where retraining actively occurs by all factions (I've played BI and RTW for sometime and have never seen it used extensively). Personally, I like it because it forces me to be on my game (for once) when in battle. The AI can now field some "elite" armies and not just a bunch of big ones. This makes for some really difficult battles at times and forces me to avoid some armies simply because they are too experienced.

-a bit more stable too

Alex - cons:
-gone are "offensive" naval invasions. the AI will only use naval invasions "defensively" to protect its lands.
-although a welcome challenge, there is still great debate as to the realism of the AI's active use of the retraining feature in a "realism" mod.

I'm using BI.exe and I see all factions retraining constantly! I always have to fight experienced full stacks with full numbers, every retrained unit having at least 3 bronze chevrons.

I used BI with EB 1.0, but got fed up with the silly naval invasions. The idea was that the Romans use this to invade Carthage once they've taken Sicily (or the other way round). But they'd only do that when I'm Carthage. When I am playing Macedon or KH, they'd pester me with small stacks, even though I had been nothing but a friendly neighbour.

Currently, I am considering to use ALEX, but I am not sure if it's worth it. I've heard so many mods praised for making the A.I. smart, yet always ended up disappointed,

It's smarter then RTW and BI AI that's for sure. Try it!

As the EB team always suggest RTW exe, I use RTW exe. Look everybody RTW exe has taken the lead, go go go.

Cheers.

I'm tempted to bealive that all those RTW users use it cause they don't have the expansions :sweatdrop:

I've got BI, but after using it for a short time I went right back to RTW. Because IMO BI's AI is even worse than RTW's.

Well, first of all EB was made for RTW, so for testing purposes I stick with the default.
Other than that, I don't trust ALEX. Too many hidden hardcodings and such.

I have played BI before, and next time I start a long campaign I might use it. Though, next time I start a long campaign I might be using Kingdoms.

Well I was expecting that there would be more RTW users , but I wasn't sure which expansion was more popular, I though it would be BI since in my opinion it's easier to get

side note:only 76 voters and this poll is about to die? :inquisitive:

Alex.exe FTW

I have all 3 .exe's and prefer always to play with BI. Not necessarily because i think it's smarter. I just like BI options like hording and such. Since i'm always messing around with my install. It's more fun playing around with BI options in EB. I honestly do not think there is much difference between the .exe's in terms of which one is smarter. The only plus side in alex for me is perhaps your prone to see a bit more retraining and the larger DMB is also plus if your going to add a bunch of units. Other than that though......I fail to see this remarkable improvement in how smart the AI is as some would have you believe.

there are no crazy naval invasions eveywhere :smash:

as someone said somewhere else

"with BI you can be sure that you will be at war with any faction with access to the sea"

I use Alex but I'm only about 20 years into my first (KH) campaign so I haven't really had enough experience of it to know whether all the rumours are true..

I have seen the AI shipping units across the sea to reinforce threatened (by me) regions. I have also seen it doing something which I customarily do in M2TW hotseat play - splitting larger stacks into small ones and then reforming them into a big stack to go on the offensive. In hotseat I do this to make it less likely that on an opposing player's turn it will be harder for them to knock out my armies in one hit - I have no idea whether this is why the AI does it..I'd guess it's not that smart

I haven't seen a great deal of retraining by the AI yet

but on the plus side, the whole game is a lot more stable on the Alex.exe - far fewer CTDs for me, especially when alt-tabbing in and out of the game (which used to make it crash 1 in 3 times using BI.exe)
