Can you tell the difference between things Al Gore said in his book "Earth in the balance" and things the Unabomber said in his manifesto?

Take the Quiz! (http://www.crm114.com/algore/quiz.html)

(this is more a frontroom style thread but I put it here because of the politics. It's just for fun)

Hmm. 42%

I'm not surprised, I read parts of the manifesto years ago. Fun quiz though.

50% Haven't read either. Interesting.

25%. (read neither)

I cast the Unabomber into the Tyler Durden role, and got most of them wrong. Gore's parts were actually more tirade-like, I should have known, he was the one trying to sell something. :inquisitive: Outrage is the opiate of the masses, I guess.

50%. ~

While I was taking the quiz I thought I had it pretty much down. I was all ready to post my 100% score and then lecture you all that there is, in fact, a big difference between the systematic madness of the Unabomber, and the appearance of madness that is simply a product of Gore's wandering creative mind....

Blimey. ~:mecry:

I knew that they'd be pretty hard to distinguish, but I didn't think even Gore would suggest that children in the developping world live in a less destructive environment then over here. What a jerk and utter fool

The Unabomber makes some surprisingly cogent arguments when compared to Gore's sensationalism. Who knew? :dizzy2:

Yeah. OTOH, Gore just wants your money and your love, whereas Kaczysnki blew people up whilst opening their mail.

I'm impressed that you managed to check the boxes at all.Sorry for being too succinct, Sasaki Kojiro. I see how my reply could be construed as rude.

My 50% score merely means that the test is fair. It does not mean that I'm uninterested, unappreciative or disrespectful.

Having read both texts in the past it does not surprise me at all that the two gentlemen may be confused. If anything other peoples' test scores seem to confirm that this is the case. My own test score wouldn't add anything to the equation.

Did Al Gore say it? Or was it the Archaic Apostate?

It may be more difficult to decide than you think. Each quote below is either from Al Gore's speech at the National Assn. of Black Owned Broadcasters or from AdrianII.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There may or may not be an equal number of quotes from both.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We've all run out of cliches to describe how exciting the communications industry is right now. There's never been a time like this. Communications technologies are transforming your workplace, your work force, your products, and your companies . . . offering a unique opportunity to pioneer minority ownership in the next generation of products and services that use the nation's airwaves.

1 ( ) Gore () AdrianII

Make no mistake, the obstacles are enormous, because the figures on minority ownership in broadcasting and telecommunications are a disgrace. No other word will do. We should understand that.

2 ( ) Gore () AdrianII

There are 490 minority-owned telecommunications firms--out of about 98,000. That's one-half of 1%. There are approximately 31 minority-owned TV stations--out of 1,155. That's less than 3%, and only a few of those are high-powered facilities in major markets. And yes, there are about 292 minority-owned radio stations--out of more than 10,000. That's less than 3% also. Of the 7,500 cable operators in America, nine are minority-controlled. I had to get out my calculator on that one; it's about one-tenth of 1%.

3 ( ) Gore () AdrianII

The revenue generated by these personal communications licenses could amount to 1 1/2 times the gross revenues of all the African-American business on Black Enterprise magazine's Top 100 Black-Owned Businesses list.

4 ( ) Gore () AdrianII

You know, there are those who think the information highway is a long, straight, and wide road. The fact is, it's a winding road. At points it goes uphill steeply, at some points through patches of fog. There are on-ramps and off-ramps, and they're not always well marked. There are dangerous stretches.
Yogi Berra said one time, "When there's a fork in the road, take it." I wish it were that easy.
