Hello everyone. I found a way to rename your faction, in-game, without modding any text files or anything.
It only works on a Hotseat game, however.
Changing the faction name from there is basically the same as changing the name of your cities. Go to the faction overview section, and instead of "Overviews" written at the top of the scroll like in a normal campaign, the name of your faction will be written instead. Then you click on the name, and you can edit it!
This won't change the adjective form of your faction name, though- i.e., if you rename Milan to The Republic of Genoa, the cities are still called "Milanese cities".
It's too bad this feature wasn't implemented in the regular campaign...

You'll find that the majority of people in the MPC campaigns all have custom faction names already

Ah, really? I figured I couldn't have been the first one to figure it out, but I thought I might as well post it anyway. :laugh4:

"The Ferret Sultanate" in the first BC hotseat earned me many reproaches :clown:

Same here... Never thought it was actually possible:lost:.
I'll put that on the list of "Things I've learned from visiting The Org":gossip:

LOL. No doubt the other guys took a double take on your faction. :shocked2:Does anyone care to post some interesting/funny faction names you came across while playing Hotseat

Well, the reason I realized was that I was playing a hotseat with myself (I have no friends.. *cries*) in order to play as the Mongols. I edited the descr_strat so that the game would start in 1200 and the Mongols would appear in 10 or so turns. Then, I conquered Constantinople and the whole Byzantine Empire and renamed them the Khanate of Byzantium. Then more stacks spawned and killed my economy :skull:.

Silly:

In the same hotseat Zim has renamed the Ghaznavids 'The Sultanate of GhaZim', which made me laugh

I think the Khwarezm Shah player has renamed his faction 'The Doomed Shah' (or maybe I dreamed that)

The Swedish player of the Seljuks has renamed them 'The Great Sweljuks'

Geographically accurate:

In order to show off his newly conquered territory the Omani player has changed his name to 'The Imamate of Oman and Muscat'

Reflecting recent territorial losses, the Kingdom of Jerusalem has become 'The Kingdom of Damascus'

Self-aggrandising:

And I have just this turn renamed my faction to simply 'The Caliphate' - there can be only one!

Something else which is rife in hotseat play is the renaming of captured territories - Tristan de Castlereng irritatingly (:clown:) rubbed in his total dominance in the Teutonic hotseat by renaming all his captured castles and cities in German.

I did something similar in the Britannia game - playing as Ireland I looked up all the Gaelic names for the territories of Britannia and changed them in-game as I conquered them
