If it were Gaesatae I would be charging against, then "KILL ME, JUST DON'T @#$% ME!!!!!" would probably be it. If not, then something like "I'M CHUCK NORRIS!!!!":beam:

Seriously, "FOR GLORYYYYYYY!!!" or "FOR <insert god, general who pays you, nation>!!!" would be beffiting as my last words.

Your second battlecry would incur in a plumetting of morale in the enemy, followed by immediate routing. Since they all know they can't defeat Chuck Norris.

EDIT: Mine would be "THIS...! IS...! ATHENS!!" :D

J.Alco
07-21-2008, 10:17
Mine would probably be the classic and very much used:

"AaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAaaaAAAAAAAAAAHH!!!!"

(To get a correct idea of how it should sound, your voice has to go really high and shrill halfway through).

It's not very original, I know, but it's a time-honoured battlecry that has probably been yelled out by every good soldier on the planet on every side.

What do you mean charge.

I'm probably relaxing in a tent some few miles from the battlefield being fanned by a couple of ladies, while sipping a cool drink and listening to my strategos telling me the latest reports.

Barbarians? How about "Roma Victrix"? Hoplites singing paeans? Warcries were not limited to Barbarians, you know. I also find the way the feature was implemented a bit ridiculous.

Warcries should just happen on their own when you give the order to charge.

That's how I'd have implemented it.

I don't know if this is related, but in EB and for some strange reason, I usually shouts "HEIL HITLER" when using cavalry to charge someone in the back. I do not in any way support nazi ideology, and I can't stress that enough, but for some reason, there's is something strangely forbidden of charging someone from behind with cavalry...it's almost erotic...and I guess that's where my battlecry comes in, because it's taboo even to mention Hitler's name.

Do I need help?

The list of plausible warcries is endless. I guess I'd shot "Ura!" or "Alu". I'm not sure, but I think Alu was a battlecry amongst the Germanic tribes. At least a guy on the "Reginheim" (informative geocities website on everything Germanic) presented the theory. Interestingly, I later found out that "Alu" can mean noise in dialectal Norwegian.

Assuming the "mosh pit" mentioned in the OP is in fact the rear of the enemy line in EB 1.1, I guess I growl gutterally sometimes.

If we're talking a real mosh pit, well I'm a bit old for slam-dancing or whatever its called these days so I'd probably be shouting "WHERE'S THE EXIT SONNY?"

Perhaps I should use faction specific battlecries: How about "Dulce et decorum est oi watch you pilum mate pro patria yes you behind me mori" for the Romani. I guess my growl will do for the Lussotannan campaign I'm in ATM.

I would think something like: "Hi, would you like to talk about GOD?", then laugh as they run away screaming. (The poor polytheist scamps, but hey, at least this rediculous construct of Religion is useful for something)
Also, random things like: 'Hey Fred, long time no seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!'

The list is truly endless.

Being serious, I would go for ¡VENCEREMOS! - 'We will win' in Latin American Spanish (not sure about Spanish spanish)

I'll sound quite conventional, mine is "Fortuna!!"

I wish I could turn Karl Orff's aria into .dat format and have it play when you click start battle.

Why Fortuna ? Easy, my motto is "Lady Fortuna is an unfaithful whore" and if we take a look a the average ratio of win/lost battle in RTW/EB, we can also conclude that most generals and captains are peerless lovers. Admirals seems to be the exception... no women on board, maybe that's the answer.

I would really Really REALLY want Carmina Burana - O Fortuna as the battle start theme. Is this possible anyone? we can use it, as it was written more than 70 years ago, so no copywrite. .dat files always mystify me, as fo some reason my computer thinks that they can be played on Windows Media Player. Double-you. Tee. Eff.

Also, I've just nicked your motto. I'll try putting it into Latin. Actually, I might put that in tn my EB quotes thing.

Edit: Regina Fortuna Scortum non Fidelem Est (I think. not sure about the adjective. Also, I think it would sound better with meretrix, as opposed to scortum for 'whore', but I don't know what the ending for that is in the Accusative (It might be -icis in the Nominative, but I've only be learning latin for about, oooh, 2 hours lol, so I'm unsure as to where that leaves us re Accusative.))

Since I'm mumbling that phrase to myself in french, I'll believe you about the latin translation.

About copyright, sure, composers don't get a share anymore after 70 or 75 years. However, the issue of interpreters still remains. My version of Carmina Burana for instance, was recorded by the Red Army Choir in the 90s. That interpretation would be free of right by 2060 at best...

A solution be would be to find yourself an electronic composer to artificially recreate the aria for you using samples (and assuming he acquired those sounds samples legally, sounds samples are copyrighted too).

That's the legal situation according to what I gathered talking to a friend who's a composer.
