Hello follow EB’ers. Long time no see.
I am longtime EB player/forumer who ceased both activities months ago after buying a new computer capable of handling M2TW. At first I was amazed at all the eye candy, but I quickly got bored as I realized that the game had no real depth. I tried at least a dozen mods, but remained intensely frustrated by the lack of realism and accuracy in all of them. Some were better than others, but as a whole they left me feeling empty on the inside.
Then one day as I was modding an M2TW mod, slaving away trying to make it balanced and at least mildly realistic, I fell upon some old files titled “EB.” For the next half hour I nostalgically reminisced over the good ol’ days, the countless hours of fun EB had provided. Well, its a day later and I’m a half-decade into a KH campaign, fighting for my very survival against Antigonos and Pyrrhus.
I can’t believe it, but I enjoy EB far more than M2TW or any M2 mods on the market. I only regret that it took me months of exile in order to learn that you can’t do any better than EB, even with RTW’s primitive engine. With the sheer amount of blood, toil, tears, and sweat poured into every individual faction (if I may quote Sir Winston Churchill), I doubt that it is possible to ever grow tired of it.
I never realized till now how much I appreciate EB and the people who created it. There truly is no other mod like it. I think we too often take it for granted that we can enjoy other people’s hard work for free, so I just wanted to say “thanks” to the EB team and everyone involved/affiliated with it.
p.s. Why don’t the legionaries wear the lorica segmentata cuirass?

Hear, Hear TWFanatic, I am in total agreement with that statement. I was originally not even going to buy MiNO (Medieval in Name Only), but then I stumbled across the EBII forum, so I went and got a copy. I then figured, what the hey, I'll give this sucker a try. I played the vanilla version for about a half hour before I got bored with this thing. I still wanted to give it a chance though, and remembering how vanilla RTW was when it first came out, I started downloading mod after mod ad infinitum. Must give props to my harddrive for not taking a crap on me with all the install, play, uninstalls in the space of an hour that I've put it through :laugh4: :laugh4: . I kept this up for a month or 2, a few of the mods seemed promising, one total conversion especially, but alas, while it was a great achievement for such a short time spent on it (especially in comparison to the YEARS spent developing and perfecting EB), there were certain historical and gameplay issues that made it another bust. I may try it again in the future once an update occurs, but for now that one is still unplayable for me. I guess we EB players all got spoiled by such a great mod, and now there's no going back. Some of those MiNO modders are really talented individuals, but are no EB dev team (shame, that, though I bet in a few years those guys will get to that level of modding dankness). Anyway, the end result of my foray into the world of MiNO is that it sits in a drawer collecting dust against the day EBII finally comes out. For anyone who read this post, thanks for listening to my ramble, and again, THANK YOU EB TEAM.
And yes, I'm happily enjoying a few concurrent 1.1 campaigns ( gamer's A.D.D. lol) I actually came back to EB while doing my morning coffee and forum check routine the day 1.1 was released (so of course I had to download and try it, since I've been having so much fun with EB since v.81 or so). I've never looked back since.
Amem to that brothers :shame:
that's very nice to hear, its a huge motivation to push ahead on EB2 when we can come here and see that EB1 is still a fun experience, and even better than M2TW. We'll see how you feel about M2TW mods when EB2 is released...

Thanks very much for the kind words to our group.
As Paullus says, this kind of gratitude certainly helps motivate the group as a whole to work towards EB2.
As to your final question, I assume it's a joke. :clown:

It's the least I can do.
As to your final question, I assume it's a joke. :clown:
Your assumption is correct. I just thought it rather odd that we haven't had an LS thread in a while.
Even with the better mods for it (Stainless Steel, Deus lo Vult, Broken Crescent), M2 is just utterly lifeless and boring compared to EB. This is one of my favorite game mods ever, and has made Medieval 1's dumb bastard little brother Rome TW finally worth playing. RTW spent years sitting in my cd rack til an early EB build came out, and with the release of .8, and especially 1.0 on, has probably become the most played game on my computer over the last year or so (and I don't see that changing anytime soon). Cheers to the EB team, believe me, I rave about this mod on other message boards every chance I get!

I'm going to echo the comments here, I've tried most of the major MTW2 mods and still come back to EB, Stainless Steel is the only one to hold my attention and even that loses out to EB. No way am I paying for MTW2 until EB2 is out :2thumbsup:
Cheers all, viva EB2!

I vigorously agree with all of you and it's great to see you again TWF (I used to hang out with you at the RTWH at Heavengames before:laugh4:). EB has always fueled my love for ancient history ever since I downloaded and installed a few years ago, and it will always inspire me in my work and in my writing which is of course historical fiction about the Seleukids, Karthaginians, Romani among others. A couple of years from now if I get one of my stories finished and published I will have a special thanks and dedication to EB and the great EB team.

EB is far and away the best single-player campaign experience in all of the world of TW - I am thoroughly addicted and I don't play SP campaigns in any other game or mod anymore.
In fact the only reason that I still have M2TW installed is to play hotseat campaigns against other humans - BC has proven to be the best mod for that, but I'm sure EB / EB2 would be even better if it were possible.
Alas, the very strength of EB (the highly developed script) also makes it impossible to use for hotseat...ah well, you can't have everything I suppose!

I couldn't have said that better myself... the only reason I will stop playing EB 1...is to play EB 2 :beam:
really all the other mods seem plain to me compared to EB , amazing job , hell it's even better than ANY game I've ever paid (well...any other game in it's genre for that matter)
a Toast for the EB TEAM :medievalcheers:

A hearty amen to the opening post. Becoming bored with vanilla RTW didn’t take long, and I began casting around for enough money to upgrade my computer and buy MiNO. My first love, after all, is the medieval period and modern age. It was then, by happy chance, I stumbled across Europa Barbarorum. Eight months later, I still have the same computer, and aside from wishing I could play EB on the highest visual settings, I no longer really care about upgrading.
Europa Barbarorum has taught me so much about ancient history. RTW was enough to whet my interest, but every time I tried to pursue the interest, I found what I had learned in the game was painfully wrong. Being a fanatical history buff since the tender age of five, that disturbed me. Finding a mod that tried to be historically accurate down to the plumes on the helmets was my cup of tea. An old Avalon Hill fan, I would have probably played the mod if I had had to wade through the most boring of campaigns in order to get the history contained within, but imagine my surprise when I realized that this illustrious group of modders had actually surpassed the level of fun and challenge presented by Creative Assembly in the original game.
I want to say thanks to the entire team. If there could only be a team of medieval historians and modders as dedicated as you all, my joy would be complete.
In the end, I have only one regret. EB is such a stellar effort that every other mod I look at looks shabby and half-done in comparison. I find historical inaccuracy wherever I look and then find that no one really cares about changing it to reflect reality.
Well done, team!!!!!!!!

So, this is my 100th post on these 'ere forums, and I reckon I'll be here for my 200th, and even maybe more. Just one of these posts has been outside either of the EB forums, and al withing about a month. No othere game I have ever played has left me this completely enthralled. In fact, thanks almost entirely to this forum, I have recently taken my first few steps along the way of the Modder. Hopefully someday I may even add something to EBII, or, if it ever hapens, EBIII. You have also reki~:cheers:ndled my love of ancient history, which I have had for the past 10 years, since the age of 5. You opened my eyes to the world of Baktria, and quite frankly, I haven't felt this intrigued about history since I first started learning about the Romsans at school. And this history especially, which we know so little about, with not one archeological dig on an Indo-Greek City! Why?
This game has also taught me so much about ancient history. I just wish we had EB at school, asit is better than almost any Teacher I've had for history.
You have pushed this game to it's limits, and good lord, are we thankful for it.
To all the team at EB, and to another 100 posts, Cheers.

I just returned to playing TW games to discover EB 1.1 had been released, being one of the first people to download 0.8 way back when I couldn't wait to play the new version so I reinstalled RTW and patched it up to 1.5, quickly downloaded 1.1 and I have to say it is the best game I have ever played - well done EB team.
