I have a small, pea-sized smooth bump within the area where my submental lymph node would be. It has been there for some time and does not appear to want to go away. Anyone had anything like this?

Nope, but I would get it checked out.
Better safe than sorry...
I'd love to say something helpful, but I'm still trying to figure out where the submental lymph node is located. Wait, let me Google it ... hmm. Apparently "the submental lymph nodes (or suprahyoid) are situated between the anterior bellies of the Digastrici. Their afferents drain the central portions of the lower lip and floor of the mouth and the apex of the tongue. Their efferents pass partly to the submandibular lymph nodes and partly to a gland of the deep cervical group situated on the internal jugular vein at the level of the cricoid cartilage."
I'm getting the impression it's somewhere in your head. That's a start.

I'd check it out. I've heard a few stories from relatives back in NE Iowa about nodes gone bad. Not that this is a harbinger of doom by any standards, but I'd still say better safe than sorry, as CA stated.
PS- Nice mug shot! :jester:

Here was me thinking im the only idiot who doesn't know where my submental lymph node is... i google'd it as well and someone on yahoo answers was willing to bet it would go down in a day or two
Maybe we could like a doctor service here at the .org, seems to be plenty of medical problems to go round, i have got 2 i have been wondering about myself...
Just a cold don't worry, usually have that during winters

It's a lymphnode that failed to "deflate" after an infection. It's quite common. If t bothers you, go to the doctor and he'll sort you out, otherwise, leave it. They usually go down eventually, but in some cases it may take years.
If you are currently sick, then your lymphnodes will be naturally swollen.

Guys, guys, go play doctor with your girlfriends if you want, but don't talk CROSSloper out of seeing a real doctor.

I don't have any of those "girlfriends" you're talking about but otherwise I agree with you.

Hey, I don't want to be infected by a plaguebearer
Seriously, if you're really worried about it and it's there for quite some time now, go see a doctor.

I'd be surprised that a Dr would do much more than make a note of it. A single node isn't miuch of a worry and is probably benign. If other nodes are swollen then that's more of an issue.
I'm assuming you've not got a tooth infection / swollen / bleeding gums over that area; lip cancer can cause swollen glands but is unusual in the western world.
Bottom line: probaby nothing, but see a Dr to make sure.
I'd note the finding, and review in say a month. seeing as how I'm a GP in 2 weeks I can be pretty certain that's what I'll do.

It's been there for roughly nine months and does not appear to be connected with other symptoms. I'll probably go to a doctor some time soon, if only to find out what this thing is.
