ok my king has good virtues and all but the next in the line doesnt. The guy next in line has unhinged loon and someting else that I forgot that gets a -2 morale. How do I kill him should I jsut throw him at someone elses provinces just to die? I need answers and quick because my king will die soon.

You could send him on a suicide mission, assasins, spies, inquisitor .......... really any of these options are viable.

1. what happens if assasian fails?
2. what does the spy do? kill him? and what happens if fails
3. what does inquistor do? and what happens if fails

I think a civil war happens. Civil wars are lots of fun but a pain in the ass!

Votts ...

1. If he fails there is a chance the target will find out it was u who sent him. If he finds out then his loyalty understandably will go down and he may lead a revolt.

2. The spy will try to ... try him for treason. I dont know what happens if he fails as I never have failed at it. Though I would imagine his loyalty would again take a hit.

3. Inquisitor tries him for heresy, again I dont know what happens with failure though my guess would again be a hit to loyalty.

A few notes ...

If a general is high command ... it is harder to assasinate him

If a general is loyal then its harder to try him for treason.

If a general is pious then its tough to try him for heresy. Also bishops/cardinals/presits and their muslim counterparts will make it more difficlut to try him for heresy if they are in the same province.

just send him on his own into rebel territory, if you autocalc he'll lose about half his men each time. Keep doing it, until it's just him on his own, and the way auto-calc works he'll die, usually takes about 3-4 turns. Can't be done easily with your king though because his bodyguards regenerate (about 7 per year).

If you do suicide or disband him, it's probably worth using his bodyguard to top up any depleted units of royal knights that you have kicking around, first though. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

I was under the impression this guy appears on the heirs list still and so you can't disband him.

A Word Of Caution.

I got carried away with the weed them out idea, & ended up with no heirs, a dead king, & my first game loss. Always keep one in reserve, just in case.

yup always keep one in reserve unless you have a former one with royal blood that's any good.

On the subject of heirs, portugal is where my faves one spend their time. Strip it down of everything except a port and put heir with a high quality army in a place that can reach it. Raise the taxes and ever 2 years or so you get experience and loads of money. I keep my king there until his 1st good heir matures, a really good way of building up royals and making money. The same can be done with scotalnd (or any other province if you set the rebellion factor to 2-6). That Longshanks bloke was on to something, building up his star rating on purpose by inciting revolt in scotland. Shame his son was such a ****.

Just a small addition... If an inquisition fails, the target's Peity usually goes up (has had the fear of God put in him..)..

It's a good, if risky, way to improve your govenors. Sent one of your low level inquisitors to get him..

I had an heir way down the list of inheritors. GREAT stats, 9 dread, 6 or 7 command, 9 loyalty...but he was tortured and a coward (-9 to morale) and therefore useless as a commander. So i sent him on several suicide missions by himself against the Novgorod, hoping to get some use out of him. Couldn't kill him! Auto-calculated 3 battles but he kept retreating. Finally it was down to just him, and he had 9 valor. Sent him in and controlled the battle manually, against a large Novgorod host...he took out 58 boyars, was valor 11 (! that's what it showed on his unit icon, 11!) by the end....and got -8 valor from the fight. I don't know, I thought he fought pretty valiantly!
