Rebels/Saxons/Normans in custom battles?

When I played RTW I was able to enable the rebels in custom battles by editing the descr_sm_factions file and changing the no next to "custom battle availbility" to yes, unfortunatly when I do this with medeival II it seems to have no effect is there any way I can play as the rebels/saxons/normans in custom battles? Please help me out with this, I know someone out there knows how to do it because various mods have the saxons/rebels/normans enabled. I have been working on this for 2 days and it's getting really frustrating.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

IIRC the menu is limited so you need to remove other factions before the newly enabled faction shields can show.

I really appreciate you helping, although are you sure? I tried that and it had no effect.
