View Full Version : anybody ever successfully "swap" a faction?

I am a big fan of faction swapping; that is, creating another faction out of an existing one. I do this by using FD to extend and existing faction to a different part of the map. It is great because it adds new dimension to the game and helps to keep an AI superpower from exploding on the map by 200BC (cough... yellow death). The factions I typically swap include:

Aeudi to Trace (byzantiom area)
Averni to Galacia (just below pontus)
Saba to Numidia (although sometimes I'll use the Luso because the Saba can't hold water to Carthage)
KH/Macedon/Baktrika to Pergamom (iposos/sardis area)

does anybody else ever do this?

Yep.

Numerous times.

In a brief, unreported Arverni-as-Galatia game, I quite successfully forced Epeiros to migrate to Pergamon and play as them.

In my Roman game I made Saba play as Numidia/Mauretania, though they still held Arabia and southern Egypt. I also gave the Arverni Galatia. It's not really rich enough on it's own as a starting province, though. I moved Epeiros to Kyrene in the same game, and left Makedonia as Krete and KH as Rhodos.

AI Epeiros-to-Pergamon, hardly at all. Once they'd lost Taras, Epidamnos and Amkrakia, they gave up on Greece altogether and focused on Asia Minor and the Hellespont. Took them less than a year to grab Nikaia. I didn't play it for that long before giving up (Galatia is too poor to support a faction).

AI Epeiros-as-Kyrene did a good job of defending themselves against both Pergamon and Qarthadast, even taking Lepki and Ammonion at one point before I reined them in.

Aedui or Arverni always manage to keep Galatia, often building several stacks who patrol it, but only when they've also got other holdings. If they're reduced to Galatia alone, I suspect they'd dip into the red so fast they'd go inactive, as AI factions do when they're deeply in debt.

Saba can usually look after itself against Qarthdast, though they need early help.

Makedonia-Krete and KH-Rhodos are only safe because I don't use BI, and won't invade them myself.

I never thought of placing Epeiros out there as Numidia! Usually Carthage wipes out the Saba in a year. It would be nice to see some more action out in Africa

Not as Numidia, as Kyrene (which is a Greek colony, after all). Sandwiched in between Egypt and Qarthadast.

A "hard" swap by altering files like the descr_strat.txt, or a "soft" swap by messing around with them in-game?

Hard swaps and soft swaps. You just invented two new words, Quintus.

how do you perform a hard swap?

how do you perform a hard swap?

First make sure both your partners are up to the task before hand. There is nothing worse than ruining the mood halfway through with a surprise such as this.

Have female A get on top of female B (or vice versa, order doesn't matter), on their knees. Their lower halves should be lined up. From behind, make sure you have the timing and rhythm right. It is best if you can swap between one and the other, while hard, without skipping a beat.

I'll upload pictures and easy step by step instructions once I have the time. PM me if you have any trouble.

The most difficult part of the swap is equal distribution.

I know... I know

nah keep it simple with a soft swap guide because i am not techincally sound to handle a hard swap at the moment,

innovation at its finest hard and soft

Soft swap is relatively simple; all you need is mastery of the move_character command and possible some Force Diplomacy, or lots of money via add_money to buy the AI into doing as you want.

First step, besiege and take their "new" capital (ie where you want them to go). Then give it to them as a gift with 10,000 mnai. Either buy or besiege them out of all their old settlements, and move their armies to the new location. You'll have to beisege their old capital.

You'll probably have to give their old towns to someone else, preferably of a roughly similar culture, or they'll rebel right back to them.
