Crusades

Is there a point at which crusades no longer get called by the pope (unless requested)? In my current game as spain, it is the late 1300s and there hasn't been one for awhile. From previous games they do seem to be a lot less frequent after the mongols arrive.

The Pope will always call a crusade on Antioch, not much happens after that, normally I call a crusade once in a while, to maintain my popularity with the Pope and to get my units some experiences and my generals some positive traits.

If all valid crusade targets are taken and no originally Christian lands are occupied by rebels or Muslim factions, the pope cannot call a crusade (basically if you try to call a crusade and get an empty, or nearly empty, list)
