View Full Version : Random battles not random!

Since the patch is taking forever to develop, I decided against playing any more campaigns and try out the "Fight Battle" option. It was interesting to be given a random slew of units and use them constructively to overcome the opponent. The first thing I noticed is that the AI always had better quality units than myself, and I suppose the devs made it that way to make it challenging. For about a couple of hours, I went through roughly 10-15 battles (some I just exited when I realized I didn't have a chance). Then I tried another "random" battle, and I got the same one I started out with! I tried another battle, thinking that last one was a fluke, only to arrive at the same conclusion.
After three days of "random" battles, I realized there is a set of about 10-15 battles with set pieces and set battlefields. I really think this is false advertising to say "Fight Battle" that is supposed to be random only to be given a fixed number of possible battlefield combinations. I hope the upcoming patch would fix this.

It is random. You are given one of the fifteen battles to fight randomly. Besides, there are far more important things to be done for the patch. Why not just set up a custom battle to your liking?

I heard somewhere you can save custom battles in a particular directory and they'll be playable as Quick Battles.

If there is a set number of battlefield combinations for the "Fight Battle" option, it was a waste to put it on the top of the Opening Menu. And the reason why "random battles" are better than customized ones is that it takes no time for me to start a battle with a random one. With a customized battle, it takes time to set up the units for each side and also where battle will take place. Not to mention the surprise factor is removed when I'm picking the units. I'm very disappointed with CA to shortchanging their customers with yet another unfinished portion of the game. It isn't that difficult to hard code random units and random battlefield territory!

You must feel brilliant for owning the comp to death on custom battle mode.

Rather than random units it would be better I think to have a few different armies for each faction and choose 2 random factions, then a random army for each of them and fight on a random battlefield. The reason is that random units would end up being a crap army. Doing it this way, at least, you would get (by my quick calcs) 160,000 different battles (12 factions, 3 different armies each and 400 maps).

I find that every single time I do a quick 'random' battle i fight the same battle. Spanish vs Almos, then if I quit it does give me a random battle. There actually kind of fun as you will never fight these kind of quality troops in the SP campaign. And it allows you to fight cool battles with english longbows vs french knights and xbows!
