I have been playing M2TW for a long time but I never had something like this happened.
Well I played the game and out of the blue the Council of Nobles gave me a gift - 2500 florins.
I thought that.. Well, this was a nice thing to do ..
Then I hit the 'End Turn' button and Pope gives me gift - 2500 florins..
My thoughts - Wow .. Pope gives me money and not the other way around!
I hit 'End Turn' button and....
The Council of Nobles gifts me again - 2500 florins!!
I am almost scared to go on because of this..
Will they just keep giving me money?!:inquisitive:
Had you recently completed any missions given to you by the Council and/or the Pope, perhaps unknowingly? The money could be your reward....

Its random chance based. It tends to happen more often when you have done things that they may possibly have asked you to do next.

IIRC then the last mission was to take Antwerp..
But I completed that mission 4 turns ago and I got my reward .. 4 units of peasants :furious3:
Sometimes I just don't understand this AI!
Both the Council of Nobles and the Pope do give gifts (a show of 'appreciation' for your hardwork and obedience) but we can probably only speculate when this actually happens.
A possible theory is having a high standing (if there is a Council-O-Meter, like the Pope-O-Meter), plus consecutive Missions completed. One hitch is that, say, in every campaign you try to do the missions, gifts of gold rarely happens. (Say in 10+ catholic campaigns i started in vanilla, I only got a gift from the Pope once, the same with CofN... Yes, and i try to be obey missions as much as I can).
We could speculate, than other than very good or maybe perfect relations, and finishing missions, there could be some other factor/s that affect the chances...
Say how fast you finish missions (# of turns it took you to finish compared to the # of turns alloted for the mission), or maybe finishing multiple missions within a short amount of time (i.e. 5 council missions within, say, 13 turn).
We could also add another guess, thta like the guild points system where there is a quota leading to a gift, (points that could come from what was mentioned in the previous paragraph), and perhaps a minus point at the start of each new turn. If that was the case, what can ruin your chances are the difficulty of the missions given, or say a case where after receiving/completing 3 consecutive council missions (fast, I assume) you get a papal mission that may ruin your momentum.
Or, it could be something much much simpler, where if you a mission, there is a 5% chance of getting a gift (higher/lower depending on difficulty)
Or it could be something entirely different...
Bah, who knows. We can only discuss and speculate...:gossip:

Yah, it seems it awards players who have followed their requests well. Either way, I'm not complaining about anything free :p

I dont know about papal gifts but it seems to me gifts from the nobles are completely random. during my last few minutes to play m2tw everyday, i start a campaign as egypt but never continue it, and i did it for about 5 days before i decide to start an actual campaign to continue as egypt. during one of those little campaigns, the nobles gave me 2500fl as a gift, and i didnt do anything special. Believe it was 5turns in to the game. never happened to me again in my othercampaigns.
