I was browsing through some of the BIF files, and I noticed that the game has seperate counters set aside for these two characters that look just like them. The files are in Campmap/Pieces/Agents. You're going to need the BIF reader to view them.
Having never got either of the two I have no idea if this feature ever made it to the final game.
Now I have'nt heard this mentioned before, but what I think would be a really cool feature for a future patch/mod/expansion? would be to really flesh out the heroes and historical personalities part of the game. I mean give them a seperate distinctive piece on the strat map, so you know when you've got a special character. They don't have to be uber units, although they should resemble to some extent the char that they're based on. I may have gotten many historical characters in my game but not realised cos I've never heard of them. Giving them a distinctive strat piece and picture would really bring them out and I think would encourage players to read up on their fave generals. I might be wrong here but I reckon that even the most casual MTW player has some interest in history, and from some of the threads I've seen, many of you are bordering on the obsessive.
Anyway what does everyone else think?, for me its the RPGish bits, ie. v+v and the preoccupation of the continuation and betterment of your line, that make MTW far superior to shogun in my opinion.

MTW is not definately superior to STW because of rpg. This may be sad to say, but those darn video segments give STW a boost in competition with MTW. That would be very cool to see video segments whenever a hero comes of age or enters the game - perhaps showing Joan of Arc leading a charge or William Wallace hacking down Englishmen.

I also enjoyed the the vid clips in STW... for the first couple of days. By the time I'd seen them all 20 times they were merely another annoying thing to skip every turn.
Also I was of the impression that they take a lot of time and money to create, which does add a certain polish to the game but with all the other things that could be done just aren't worth it.

Yea your probably right, I think "Dreamtime" or something like that did the video work for Shogun, and I noticed their logo was not on the MTW box, so I figured correctly the videos took up alot of game space and were abandoned. Its just a nice touch is all. As far as RPG is concerned, I have noticed some very strange vices and virtues, for instance some of my kings were depicted as being both cowards and brave soldiers. A bit odd.

the videos were nice in shogun, but like it was said, i skipped over them after the first couple of days.
i like the rpg aspects of mtw, but the game centers around the rts combat. anyway you look at, all the strategy and character developement is done for one thing and one thing only... to crush your enemys on the field...

To flesh out my original point a bit: I'm playing as the danes at the min and have about 6 0r 7 generals at 6+ stars. No I don't even consider attacking anymore unless one of these generals is involved and because their kept where the action is, they tend to do most of the defending too, so any battle in the last 100 years of play has basically involved one of these.
Off the top of my head I can maybe recall the name of one of them. I don't really care if any of them live or die, except that it would be awkward to replace them.
Now however if a couple of these were special 'unique' characters, with something to set them appart from the masses (I suggested a different strat army piece and picture), damn sure I'd know what they were called, and do everything possible to lead them to glory. Maybe thats just me.

As stated before take a look in Campmap/pieces/agents and see the robin hood and joan of arc strat map pieces and you'll see what I mean.

Meh, video cutscenes are a waste of my time (and money, i AM paying for them after all). I'd rather have more gameplay depth thanks.
I'd really like to see more variety in the unit markers, both in the strategic map and the tactical combat. Something like the standards in STW, maybe different coats of arms for different generals (or maybe for different titles).

They do actually appear in the game. Joan of Arc appears around 1370ish(she is produced in a unit) & is a 6-7 general & robin of locksley appears in the 1300's. I'm not sure about the sepetate strat pieces but I have seen robin of locksley in a muratibin infanrty http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

btw other factions get famous generals as well the egyptians get one called something like Ala Din. Most appear in revolts but some like Joan of Arc can be produced. This might be why most players haven't seen them as the player will tend to have less revolts than the AI.

FitzGilbert. If you play the english, you get FitzGilbert. (Damned if I can remember his first name, I keep him in Titles http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) He comes with -30% to bribery cost and IIRC, 5 or 6 stars. And he always, without fail, picks up good Virtues faster than god. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif My current FitzGilbert is a 9-star No Mercy, Field Defence Specialist, Skilled Last Stand, Unbribable, Magnificient Warrior, Magnificient Builder and a plain Steward.
