Just noticed something weird:
Some of my generals and strategic agents
have been alive and in action for over 100 years now!
I'm playing as the English, and it's year 1193. The very FIRST emissary I trained, Walter Mobray, has been around all this time!
I can't really complain...he has four star valor and is one my most trusted emissaries.
But, wouldn't it be, um REALISTIC?? if more than just your faction leader could die from "natural causes." I still think it's funny that Thomas Beckett is alive and well when the REAL Beckett would have been dead at the hands of Henry II before 1193!

yes. as posted elsewhere, the game keeps track of everyone's age, but having parts of your army die from old age would have become a logistical nightmare, and detracted from the centerpiece of the game (the battle engine) so it was left out.

Yes, I see your point. And can you imagine the LENGTH of the end-year reports if every death of a general or agent in EVERY faction was reported? LMAO!

What's worse is when your oldest prince becomes king, and his younger brothers become "Lord Plantagenet" or what-not, and then they go on to live forever.

a flaw in the game but one that results in great governors! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif

It may give you great governors but it makes it impossible to upgrade or replace losses in "princeling" (sp)units.
By the time I can make Royal Knights anywhere, the Royals I want to replace apparently aren't the Royals I have built http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif
Governors? Sure....what else are you going to do with an 8 command 1sp general http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

HopAlong thats being fixed in the patch.
I don't think its being fixed in the patch. Generals and agents should all die die die! of old age that is. It would only take one parchement per turn that lists all the deaths on one sheet. It would show the name location and number of stars for that general/agent. So you could tell right away if an important general or agent died. Generals would automatically be replaced by their heir who would have a different command rating and different V and V's. Agents would just be dead.
This really should be implemented!

They should grow old and die. The life expectancy back then was probably around 42 or something.
And every army should have a second in charge.

One can agrue that generals are simply representatives of a nations leadership quality - also remember eventually you'll lose your general from combat or unit replacement. This is a very odd thing that people notice their general and his name etc. I usually have so much going on that I keep little track of the 20 some generals I have let alone princesses, diplomats, and heirs.
