I thought about this last night and by memory I don't think I have read any threads about this either.

What determines a General's bodyguard size? In many instances I have had the best of best Generals and he has only had a Bodyguard unit of say 15, however many other inferior Generals will usually end up with say between 20-30 men to his bodyguard unit.

Could it possibly have anything to do with his ancilliaries or entourage that he attracts? (such as Shield bearer, Veteran, etc)

Just interested to know.

I think it was mentioned somewhere else that it was linked to security. The more paranoid your general, the more men :P

What he said. And of course a bonus for being Leader or Heir.

Found what I wrote previously: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showpost.php?p=1462617&postcount=2
