They are actually yelling 'quasar intensity', which has been well documeneted already, as most of them held PHD's in astrophysics.

Not to mention that I've had pictures of the Khan Ogodei (who never even led the invasion of Europe, that was Batu & Subedei) as the blond bearded guy who usually appears as a German general.

I recently came up against a Mongol general who was "Charming" and "Irredeemably witty".

Shattered my preconceptions really.

"Will you spare me? I... have surrendered after all... "

"Jolly good, my fine fellow! But of course, I shall spare you the dreary life of prisoner. Why, you shall not like the Mongol food. Really, sir it is not to your liking. When I lop your head with dull axe, I do wish you sir, a pleasant trip to next world. Cheers!"

Khartok the Khan, Witty and Charming Mongol.

hmm maybe charming and witty in the mongol sense means laughing while raping virgins and telling gruesome jokes while torturing prisoners ?

Hey, what do you guys have against Mongols??
Actually they were quiet civilized, compared with Europeans. Ok, when they attacked a country they killed all citizens of a few towns, but just to scare off the others. They were religious tolerant, granted titels to people from other countries and races as long as they were loyal and they had paper money!!
From their point of view, they came to Europe to civilize barbarians!

I don't know about them being 'quiet civilised' http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
as for being 'quite civilised', they probably had a very worthwhile culture, but the concept of civilisation is normally more attached to sedentary civilisations. As most nomadic tribes, they came across as particularly violent, and conquered to plunder, not to integrate conquered populations or build up lasting empires (in Europe at least, China was different).

For having worked some time in Kazakhstan, I can tell you that the nomadic culture (for what I saw of the very little that remains there) is something completely different from anything I had come across before...

Of course their culture was completely different, but they were not just a nomadic tribe then. They integrated a lot of Chinees culture into their own (or take it over, actually Genghis Khan considered the Mongols as lacking culture and thought it necessary to have one). Violent behavior was typical for them, but not more than for European crusaders. And they definitely integrated conquered lands! Not just in Asia but also in Russia. Actually, different to European conquerers, they integrated new territory into their empire (that they called "Mongol-Ulus") as equal, and everyone who swore alleagiance to them was as much citizen as every born Mongol.

Well, the Mongol culture was part of their downfall...
They never included the subjugated peoples into it, rather they adopted theirs (Kublai Khan in China for one) to a greater extent.

But yeah, they were rather civilized if thinking on peaceful situations (tolerant, let people live their ways ect ect), but if we talk about war and personal situations I think we can call them barbaric.

BTW, Danish Crusades are true to history.

You may not care about war, but war cares about you!
