View Full Version : A Winter woderland
No matter how far north I go and how many battle I fight, I cannot seem to get myself on a winter map. Has anyone actually fought on a winter tileset in single player?

I have once. I believe that if you fight 4 battles in a turn, the fourth one is winter.

back on the .COM (angelic opera noises, accompanied by trumpets heralding news from a glorious land now passed), forum giljay verified that the battles fought in a single turn/year are by season. Thus 4th, (and subsequent), battles are winter wonderlands.
I'd cite the post, but uh, well yes. From the words of good ol' gil, straight to you., sorta... secondhand kinda... well, just trust me.

Oddly playing as a northern faction like England or France, I never had a winter battle, but playing as the Almohads I have had several. I think that the reason that his happens may be real simple.
As was previously stated, winter battles are the fourth battle played in a turn if you have that many. I think I tend to fight more battles in one turn towards the last half of a campaign rather than the first half.
If you start as a Northern faction, you will most likely will be playing the last half of the campaign around the Med, where there will be no snow. (although, I once had snow flurries on one of the Med islands)
Playing as a southern faction, the last half of your campaign with large multiple battle turns, would most likely be fought in the northern climes, and therefore increase the chances of a snow covered winter battle.

So u mean that,
fight 1 is spring
fight 2 is summer
fight 3 is autum
fight 4 is winter
fight 5 is spring and so on
???
explain this for me then:
I had 11 battles in 1 turn/year. the fights 3-11 were all winter. (Its not a typo i really mean the fights 3-11.)

I wonder if this has something to do with battle fields.....
I have noticed while playing online that not all battle fields allow for winter. (ie white stuff)
For example most rocky deserts .
I therefore wonder if it is calculated as a combo of architecture, battle field, location etc....
Does anybody now how the program calculates seasons ?

I have no problem with the lack of winter maps, (up north there should be more winter maps) for the sole fact that most medieval leaders spent their campaign season in fine weather, and generally tried to avoid unpleasant weather. there were exceptions, but for the most part they fought battles in spring, summer or autumn. remember these guys had strict rules about warfare goes, so far as battles were concerned.

TheViking,
As far as I understand the system, the only odd thing is that No.3 was a winter battle. All the battles after and including the 4th should be the winter ones, if the terrain permits it (in my experience, you get full fledged snow in temperate & lush, flurries in arid, no snow in deserts).
