Okay, som I'm playing as the Romani and I've just snuck Karth-Adast from the Qarthadastim so they send a large elite army to take it back. While I was looking through their army thinking "oh crap" I notice the they have a unit of spartans in there!:dizzy2: So I looked in the recruitment viewer and it said the Qarthadastim can't get Spartans! So why have they got these elite warriors in north africa threatening Romes finest?:help:
P.S: First post!
Welcome to the forums, Onehandstan.
That Spartan general would be Xanthippos. He is a Spartan general that helped Carthage in their wars against Rome.

So Carthage can recruit Spartiates, then? :inquisitive:

Welcome to the forum. This has been discussed before, it's Xanthippos of Carthage, a Spartan who is one of SSbQ's starting units. In future fdo a search. Also, while you're here, download my manual! (Click the link in my sig)

No, only Xanthippos and his bodyguard.

Carthage doesn't start with him anymore. The script spawns him in Africa if certain conditions are met, namely *If Human player is Carthage* if Carthage is at war with Rome between the 66th and 75th turns. If not Carthage, he simply gets spawned on the 67th turn *255 bc winter iirc*.

You shouldn't worry about those Spartans, there are just 300 of them and they are naked save for leather slips. :idea2:

I know some generals don't ride horses but this unit doesn't even have a character pic...
They could have been bribed. As Qarthage needs ownership of the Spartan hoplites for the Xanthippos thing to work, they can also bribe them. However they cannot recruit Spartan hoplites because the code doesn't exist for them in the EDB.

as far as I know the Qarthadastim haven't set foor in Greece so I don't think they bribed them.

Hmmm, I think you have made a mistake here. I don't believe it is possible for them to have bribed a unit of Spartans, as that would mean they would have shiped them from Hellas to Africa... Somewhat impossible if you ask me, even if you play with alex.exe.

I wouldn't say that.

In my Arverni campaign (with BI) the Carthies bribed this Roman FM in Illyria.
Then about 30 turns later (after the Carthies lost Sicilia to the Romans) they've put him aboard a ship and turned to Africa!
Unfortunatly the ship was sunk by pirates between Malta and the African coast..

Hmmm, but then again it seems highly unlikely for something like that to have happened.

Can you get spartans as mercenaries?

Nope, unless you modify that of course.
