View Full Version : Creative Assembly Stuck in Wessex!
All right,
I've got my 1st Expert level Crusade ready to go from Wessex to Antioch but I can't get it to cross the channel. My troops are beginning to snicker, leave whoopie cushions on my throne etc.
The Germans launched one on the turn before and I'm thinking that this is the reason. If this was in the Manual I don't remember and I lost the damn thing.
Any suggestions?

Try improving the nightlife round London. That should keep your men happy.
Seriously, Crusades always want to take the shortest route, which is calculated by the AI. Build a port i Wessex, and you options will be many more that just crossing into ??Flanders??. You will not have much of an army left though when your port is finished, but then you cannot have it all.
I had a crusade from Spain to Antioch, and had to march it all through Southern Europe. It took forever, and although you pick up men on the way, they are usually "shitty" units like peasants and militia, while your crack Order Foot Soliders, and my Knights of Santiago (Spanish) were decimated. I lost over a third of these troops on just moving, and then I had to fight my way through two Turkish held provinces, who were not actually welcoming, trying to flog me carpets etc. By the time Antioch was reached there was not much of a army left, bar a handfull of fighting units and a few hundred peasants. I lost....badly, but it was fun to try it out.
Next time I had a shipping route going all the way to Antioch. I also made my Crusader army smaller, and backed it up with a regular army. VICTORY!! and I now controll the entire middle east. I was playing on "Gloious Achievements" but cannot see if any points were awarded for this great deed. At the end of the time period, I was only awarded points for homelands??? any ideas why?

They've got a brothel and a tavern so their nightlife's as good as mine damn them!
I had the Strategic Map on close up and didn't notice that it gave me the option of moving through Pomerania (which they looted visciously).
Found out the same thing regarding decimation of troops. By the time I got to Contantinople I had about 1000 troops left, many peasants...then the Turks closed in...the horror.
You're right. It seems that the only way to do it is with a sea route so if they want to D-sert they can jump overboard. Makes it very tough to accomplish before 1204. Fun though.
Well, Brittania had better rule the waves.
Thanks.

Better than being stuck in bloody Essex. Before long they'll have changed their plate armour for Ben Shermans and Amarni jeans and the only cross-Channel association will be the French crop.

You'll need a port in Wessex and a fleet in the Channel as a minimum to move the Crusade towards its target. Crusades are very big armies, but they still obey the movement rules for any other army.
The fact that the Germans launched a crusade has nothing to do with your ability to have a Crusade. Each faction can only have one active Crusade at a time, but there can be more than one Crusade in existence at any given time.

About the crusade .... just destroy the chapter house and the crusade disbands giving u the enlisted troops(u get money from the chapter house too http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif ).
Essex!
That's where my 6 fingered, alcoholic current heir who I'm about to get killed in battle must come from. Sounds like Arkansas.
Had a port, had a fleet in the EC but the game wanted me to go via Pomerania so thru Pomerania I went. Started the troops snickering again as I had been shouting "On to Flanders!" etc.
