View Full Version : i should execute all my missle units for not following orders.....
why is it ALL my missle only troops allways attack the unit that has 4 ppl when im telling to atack another unit no where close to the 4 person unit? in short my missle troops attack who ever they want and dont listen to me even when fire at will is off. its driving me crazy

I find it helps to turn fire at will back on, turn it off, cancel orders, then select the unit you want to attack. If that doesn't work try moving them to a slightly different position and then select the unit you want to target.

The worst thing is when you have a metric ton of heavy cavalry beyhind their general, you tell them to charge, and half of them wander off to kill other units (msainly spearmen, if not phalanxes. The front)!
you need to order them one by one, if you order a bunch of archers (or whatever) to attack one unit... they'll just attack the most nearby unit in my experience

When you order grouped units to attack, they will attack the unit that is closest to them, regardless of which unit you selected for them to fire on/charge. Ungroup units before attacking with them.

I tend to select each unit one by one in the group and tell them to attack or charge the units that I want. If you want, just pause the game and order them 1 by 1.
Auto fire should generally be off anyways unless your fighting mobs of naked guys

Dito. Also it seems to help to ungroup them, since sometimes missle units disobey even if I select them individually but they're grouped together with other units.
when you have missile units grouped, and they are already firing on a target with fire at will, sometimes they will not attack the target you chose after it has auto acquire a target. you can ungroup them and reselect them to give orders or select the whole group minus 1 unit, then they will 100% fire at the unit you selected.
this is an old rtw problem it seems.

I never ungroup. Simply turning off auto-fire then selecting the individual units and pressing "<-- Backspace", then selecting the target afterwards does the trick!

Perhaps it is a leftover habit from years of multiplayer play, but I never use fire at will and always manually select each unit to fire on. Works fine for me.
