Ok, so I thought I might try something different, again. I'm kind of getting bored of my last campaign as Pontus-in-Carthage, getting a bit sick of phalanx warfare. Anyways, I thought it would be cool to, as the Romans, migrate out east and establish a new Roman Empire, with the boundaries based on those of the Persians of old.

Before I start, though, I'm curious about knowing whether it will be possible to achieve the 3 reforms. I think the Polybians will be inevitable, obviously. Afterwards, though, it gets a little tricky.

For the Marians, I think I have to wait until 172 BC. But I won't be able to fulfill the first set of conditions due to the fact that Italy won't be under my control. So I assume I could just wait until 172 B.C., then use Force Diplomacy on various factions into temporarily giving me cities until I have 90 of them. When the reforms kick in, I could just either give all my cities back, or let them rebel(lol). That seems simple enough, and it should work, right?

Now, for the Augustans, assuming I have a perfect character with all the required traits as Faction Leader, I could just use FD again to temporarily attain my 90 settlements. Afterwards, when the reforms kick in, I'll give them back.

I doubt my interest will be up until the Marians, but it should still be fun anyways. I just want everyone's thoughts on whether this is possible, and worth it. I need to know which units the Marian reforms let you recruit, as well as which units the Augustan reforms allow. Please, comment.
:beam:

Included below are the details concerning the reforms, taken from the FAQ:

Polybian
The Polybian Reforms happen due to a change in equiptment and tactics that were adopted or adapted due to wars with Carthage and Celts.

-At least year 242
-Hold 2 of these cities (Segesta, Mediolanum, Patavium, Bononia)
-Hold 2 of these cities (Lilibeo, Messana, Syracuse)
OR
-Wait until 210BC
(You get the new units only after upgrading your MICs.)

Marian
The Marian Reforms mark a shift between citizen soldiers and professional soldiers from any class who are supplied their equiptment by the state. These reforms will occur when you have a large empire with a lack of landed citizens to fill the growing need for soldiers. If at this point there is a man willing to make the changes to the military system, the reforms will take place.

-At least the year 172BC
-Have more than 6 Latifundia built in Italy
-Hold at least 45 settlements
-Fight more than 250 battles
-Have a character that is:
Sharp/Charismatic/Vigorous
Popularis
Consul or Ex-Consul
Has Influence > 2
Has Command > 2
OR
-Conquer 90 settlements.

Augustan
If a man with the drive arises in the Republic, willing to overthrow the Senate, give him the chance and these reforms will take place. (These reforms are not inevitable and are based on whether such a character arrises.)

-At least year 125BC
-Hold 90 settlements
-Have at least 45 type2 settlements
-Fight 400 battles
-Have a general that is:
Sharp/Charismatic/Vigorous
At least Skilled Bureaucrat
At least Arrogans
At least Expert Recruiter
Can't be Selfless
(If these conditions are met, the general will receive a trait telling he wants to seize power. Make him the Faction Heir and as soon as he becomes the leader the reforms will happen.)

I'm going to assume your either going to start with only Persis or the Persian core homelands for this then. For the Polybian I'd say then,

-At least year 242
-Hold 2 of these cities (Antiocheia, Sidon, Edessa, Karkathiokerta)
-Hold 2 of these cities (Kekatompylos, Zadrakata, Alexandreia-Ariana, Prophthasia)
OR
-Wait until 210BC
(You get the new units only after upgrading your MICs.)

For Marian, it's basically the same as normal.

-At least the year 172BC
-Have more than 6 Latifundia built in Persian Homelands *which means only Persepolis, Gabai, Apameia, Ekbatana, Susa, Arbela, Seleukeia, Babylon, Charax plus or minus a few maybe*
-Hold at least 45 settlements
-Fight more than 250 battles
-Have a character that is:
Sharp/Charismatic/Vigorous
Popularis
Consul or Ex-Consul
Has Influence > 2
Has Command > 2
OR
-Conquer 90 settlements.

The conditions for the Augustan seem fine.

Thx for the reply. However, I haven't the skill nor patience to mod the script. Aside from a slight modification to the recruitment area, I don't plan on modding anything. I was just wondering whether it was possible to achieve those reforms.

Let's check the Marians. Since Italy will be out of my reach, I believe all I have to do is:
-At least the year 172BC
-Conquer 90 Settlements

Whereas for the Polybian, I just have to settle in for a wait until 210 B.C.
These will work, right?

Yes but it wont make a difference.
Roman Camilian and Polybian troops can be trained only in Italy. So until you reach marian you will have to play game without Roman units.

You cannot recruite even Cohors Reformata in Persia, nor any of the better eastern units like Kataphrakts. I am not sure if you can stand Successor armies with archer-spearmen and Gund-i Nizagan only. May be you would better try to create an Eastern Empire where it had been: around Byzantion.
