i've had some really crappy heirs, but as of late, i may have noticed something, and would like the imput of others so i can determine if what i've noticed is true or not. i've been trying to breed my daughters with my better troop leaders, in hopes that it would make better heirs. but i recently took notice that when the heir shows up in it's unit, it shows up in the same province as your king or whatever faction you're playing. if the territory your heir shows up in has armor upgrades, then your prince has upgraded armor. same with weapon smiths. so i'm wondering if your heir shows up in a province that has a church, will he be more pious? if he shows up in a province that has merchant guilds, will he have more acumen...etc....?
if this is the case, it would be advantages to keep your king in your best territory at all times, tho moveing him around a bit so he doesn't get lazy. i further wonder if bad vices could be caused by what your king has been doing. after all, he's their father, and he ought to spend his time raiseing his children, instead of traumitizeing them.

Interesting observation, Ill test some of them in the following days

Then I would check my heirs ages all the time to make sure my king will be in a good province when the heir pops out.

I think the province does have an effect. I created an uber province by modifying the files. started with all the armor upgrades and all in wessex, playing as the english. normally i have horrible heirs. but right now im several generations into the game, and I have some wonderful heirs. Other than the occassional flop, many have had 8 accumen and 8 command togehter and relatively few bad vices.

Your King usually shows up in your highest tech province... or so it seems...
Nice observation ... nice idea ... will try it out !!
And, yes your king always shows up in the highest tech province when he is spawned ... so move him where you want him asap before he spawns heirs http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif .

Indeed. I always keep a look at the age of my sons. At 14, My King MUST GO to the best province. Then go back to fight so the next heir is even better.....

it would be cool if your heirs exsistance was directly related to everything the king does. win a few battles, bam...your heir has higher command...visit a couple of provinces that have churches, bam...his piety is raised. and so on.
With the patch you'll be able to retrain your Princes in provinces with upgrades to gain the upgrades, so this shouldn't be such a big issue anymore... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Ahhh... but we won't get Piety by retraining... Now we just need to keep the king in a province with churches or even better a Cathedral.

just repeatedly send a 0 valour inquisitor after them, they have 0% chance of suceeding and you get +1 piety each time. Interestingly this often creates the atheist vice which is -8 piety but currently has no effect, this way i always max out my kings piety within a decade.
of course if your not catholic your screwed.

Not if I know if it counts, as the staistical sampling is rather low, but in my current game, my main provence (Castille) has just about everything including some offices (chancery, university etc.) and my heirs are of Schwartzneger/Einstein quality (that is not Einsteins body and Schwartznegers brain, by the way). Initially my morarks and heirs were pretty awful, but know the are all mighty warriors and winnwer of Universty Challenge all the time.
.....so maybe there is something to it (Buildings vs. Vices)!
