“We have been betrayed…” the man-shaped being lying on the bright metallic slab muttered quietly to himself. “A whole fleet of them… we didn’t stand a chance… URGGH!” A scythe-like instrument extending from the medical computer has just descended into his flesh and burnt off his injured tissues within his wounds; the scythe then swiftly rose, and then turned blood red. “I’m dying…” He noted as he read the message encoded in the light emanating from the scythe, as though he is uninterested in his own fate. “But the men… they will need a leader… a leader who can lead them to safety… Reik would be a good choice… yes…” In truth there has been little choice, as there are only seven crewmen left after the devastating Solarian attack, leaving Reik as the only ranking officer still alive.

“Computer, call Officer Reik’Danel into medical capsule” The Captain wheezed into biometric microphone beside the slab.

A few minutes later, the tall Arborian arrived within the small chamber which holds the Captain. He bowed respectfully, and waited for the Captain to speak.

The Captain spoke as quickly as he could, telling Reik what he needed to do: to guide the ship to Utopia, and bring a warning to the rest of their race.

An hour later, Reik walked out of the medical capsule with a sense of purpose, and a heavy responsibility. The Captain has told him to keep it secret, and only tell the rest of the crew that the ship is on auto-pilot, as he has reason to believe that there is a saboteur on board. The Captain has also told him to pick a trusted crewman as his guard, and only tell him that he has become the Captain-Elect, and that he is to follow Reik’s orders, but nothing about the co-ordinates of Utopia. As for dealing with the saboteur… Reik was unsure what to do, and decided that he would ask the crew to decide amongst themselves, and throw the suspect into the brigs.

Reik looked at the battered walls of the starship and relieved the memories of the terrible battle which caused such horrendous damage to the ship, and vowed that he would succeed in the mission given to him by the Captain, no mater what.

Background:

The starship “Hunter of the Zephyer” is ambushed, along with seven other light starships of similar tonnage in a starbase near Xa’vas III, by a Solarian strike fleet. The resulting battle resulted in the deaths of the majority of the crewmen of the “Hunter of the Zephyer”, and its flight through space.

The Captain of the ship decided that the rest of their race has to be warned of this Solarian betrayal, and orders his subordinate Reik to navigate the ship to Utopia, the great refuge built by their forefathers to be a safe harbor for their people should there be a great danger to them.

The Solarian spy onboard the ship has masqueraded as a crewman and seeks to find the location of Utopia by killing the Captain-Elect Reik. However, his presence has been discovered by the crew, and the crew must now vote democratically to decide who amongst them is the Solarian spy… and then lock the suspect in the brig.

Rules:

Lengths of phases: 24 hours (or as close as possible)
Can vote no lynch/abstain: YES
Can quote/make up PMs: YES
Can private reveal: YES
Can post screenshots: NO
Can post chat logs: NO
Can the dead post: YES
Can the dead quote PMs: NO
Can the dead reveal their roles: NO
Can the players locked in the brig PM others: YES
Can they vote: NO
Can they talk in the thread: YES

During the night phase players can activate any of their special powers, if they have any. NOTE: they may only use one action per phase (apart from passive ones)

During the night phase two players can team up and kill/protect one player with 100% chance of success unless disrupted, blocked, one of them did not send the PM or one of the participants was killed. They must both send a PM using this format:

“I, along with NAME, will protect/kill NAME”

When a person is lynched, he is not killed, he is only detained in the brig, he can be freed... using someone's special power.

Discussing the games with another person behind the scenes are encouraged... please form alliances and break them at your leisure :beam: Beware of the saboteur though...

In the event of a tie during voting, there will be a 24 hour extension to break the tie. If there is still a tie after the extension, there will be no lynches.

Roles:

There are 1 Captain-Elect, 1 Guard, 1 Solarian Saboteur, and 4 other roles.

The Guard will always protect the Captain-Elect unless the Guard performs another action. To kill the Captain-Elect, the Saboteur will have to kill/lynch the guard first. Only the Guard knows the identity of the Captain-Elect and vice versa.

The Captain may not reveal to anyone.

Cover PMs will also be sent to some roles.

Objectives:

The Captain-Elect, Guard and the crewmen’s aims are to lynch/kill the Saboteur.
The Solarian Saboteur’s aim is to kill the Captain-Elect Reik.
The Captain-Elect must not be lynched.

The game starts with a night phase.

(This is my first game so this game will be probably very unbalanced and contain lots of mistakes, please bear with me on this)

Ah but only the Guard knows who the Captain is, so that shouldn't happen... Will add rule so that the Captain can't reveal to anyone though, just in case.

FactionHeir

Well, that would make it obvious in that the Captain could only act together with the guard and anyone else contacting the captain to perform actions would find it fishy.

NIGHT 1 CONCLUSION

The seven survivors of the battle had gone to sleep warily… all of them aware that their life could be snuffed out at an instant by the saboteur.

---

Dawn arrived, and the survivors gathered at the bridge. To their surprise, none of them were missing.

Relieved beyond their belief, the crewmen huddled together to decide who will be sent to the brig…

Any reason?

El Diablo
08-28-2008, 20:37
Okay here is the situation (and it may just be co-incidence).

I (finally) have a secret power in this mafia game in that I get to stop the action of one player during the night. Not kill them as I am town but give them a mild poison (as quoted by our host) and stop them doing anything....

Thus last night I requested that I stop Lord Winter from doing anything. It succeeded - although this does not 100% prove his guilt as the mafia may not have been active. I did have a 1 in 6 chance though? Maybe Maybe not....

It is however the only thing I have to go on.

Vote Lord Winter

If I am wrong please feel free to lynch me next round, but as for random votes I at least have a target (albeit a flawed one).

ED

Chaotix
08-28-2008, 21:30
Hmm... that's unlikely, but it seems like the only lead we have. Of course, there's no reason you couldn't be lying about either the existance of your ability or the fact that you used it on Lord Winter...

But I really had no reason to vote for you, either.

Unvote: El Diablo
Vote: Lord Winter

Will you tell us about your role, Lord Winter?

FactionHeir
08-28-2008, 21:39
I don't think this revealing is going to help as the mafia can claim any role too and we wouldn't know if it existed or not.

That said, blocking someone doesn't mean they are guilty. You could have blocked a plain role. As I said, the most likely thing is that the mafia can investigate too. He's a spy afterall.

Anyway,
vote QJC because he's pressing me to reveal in private to him.

Lord Winter
08-28-2008, 21:40
I'm a detective of sorts every round I can investgate one player with a 50% chance of finding out if he's guilty or not. You blocked me from investagting Factionheir. Thanks :(

El Diablo
08-28-2008, 21:52
I am pretty confident that QJC is innocent - well at least not scum. QJC has also pm'ed me and what he has told me suggests that he is not scum.
I would prefer not to reveal what he told me for now so that we have some leverage over the mafia for later.

I do however suspect Lord Winter more now. I say lynch this mafioso now.

Lord Winter is sent to the brig (unfortunately, the intercom system installed in the brig still works so Lord Winter is still able to PM other players) and all his belongings were confiscated by a person chosen by lot. The six remaining crewmen went back to their quaters, not sure of what to expect this coming night.

Again no night kills. This means:
- either the saboteur has a secondary power (investigation has been raised as a possibility, no?)
- or the saboteur is an inactive player.

Since we can't have proof of the first, I'll go with the second idea and vote:Caius. He didn't vote/post during the first day, so it's possible he forgot about this. If he did, then he won't have sent kill orders.

Tally:
Caius: 1 (WH)

Edit: let's try to keep a tally throughout the game, okay? Makes it easier to vote and such.

To even imagine such thing makes me want to laugh. :laugh4:

There's a third possiblity, El Diablo is able to block people's actions, it is possible that he blocked the mafia of his kill, all we have to do is wait for El Diablo to go online and tell us who it was that he poisoned.

Warmaster Horus
08-30-2008, 13:35

Alright... I'd say it's pretty important that I'm not lynched. If you guys will as well, I'm withdrawing my vote- Unvote:Quintus.JC - and maybe we can figure out who to vote for by discussion.

I'll start:

Chaotix- I know that I'm not the saboteur, but I have no real way of proving to you. You guys will just have to believe me...
Caius- I also know that Caius is innocent.
Lord Winter- As far as we know, because the game is still going, he's innocent. If anyone has a way of unlocking the brig, they should do it.
more coming...

FactionHeir
08-31-2008, 16:51
Why are you afraid of being lynched? :inquisitive:

Chaotix
08-31-2008, 16:58
I have an important special ability that I'd rather not reveal for now, so the mafia can't expect it. But it would really cripple the town if I was lynched.

I also know that El Diablo didn't block the mafia that last phase. The mafioso is, for some reason, not killing people on purpose.

FactionHeir
08-31-2008, 17:06
So, whos your suspect.

Chaotix
08-31-2008, 17:48
I don't have a single suspect. At this point, I believe it could be you, WH, or Quintus, with a small chance that it might be El Diablo, because I doubt shlin would give the mafia an extra ability in such a small game... although that could also be the reason the mafia's not killing- because he's been knocking them out with poison instead.

FactionHeir
08-31-2008, 20:48
Chaotix: Mafioso has a cover role though, so reveal means nothing unless you can prove it via detective results.

Chaotix
08-31-2008, 20:50
How about you two, FactionHeir and Quintus? Who are your suspects?

El Diablo
08-31-2008, 21:00
Sorry guys. Back after the weekend.

Yes I did manage to get my block in for the second night.

This was my reasoning....

1. I blocked LW round one and no one died - thus I thought I had got lucky and stopped the mafia dead. The game kept going and so I thought wrong?

So if no one died and the "mafia" was not blocked, why did he not kill?
Perhaps he was inactive....

Caius did not vote so I attempted to block him and it worked according to the pm I got from Shin.

So Caius is a suspect (but only in the same way and same reasons we got LW).

The thing I don't understand is if LW was not lying then he has a detective ability, and so does QJC, FH claims a special ability and so does Chaotix27?

TWO detectives and a blocker and a couple of other specials? Seems a bit of full house?

I also know that El Diablo didn't block the mafia that last phase. The mafioso is, for some reason, not killing people on purpose. by Chaotix27

Quintus.JC
08-31-2008, 21:22
It's understandable that everyone has a special ability. There's only 7 people playing so Shlin was able to make one for everyone. I currently don't have much idea about who the mafia is, but I'm positively sure that El Diablo is innocent though.

Caius
08-31-2008, 21:27
In fact, I tried to save El Diablo but he blocked me. I got this PM from shlin:

Quintus.JC
08-31-2008, 21:34
El Diablo is the blocker, I know the mafia might have dual abilities but I'm postively sure that its not El Diablo.

Chaotix
08-31-2008, 22:04
Yup, that's it, El Diablo. We were trying to protect you from harm just in case the mafia came after you because he knew your role. We couldn't pull it off, though, because you blocked Caius. Caius told me about what happened when shlin pm'ed me about how he never arrived to help. Not that it really matters, now, though, because no one tried to kill you.

So no lynch in the day period?

Because of the tie after I have given the extension, there is no lynch (ie sending people to the brig) today

Night 3 has ended... (early)

The six survivors of the battle had gone to sleep warily… all of them aware that their life could be snuffed out at an instant by the saboteur.

---

Dawn arrived, and the survivors gathered at the bridge. To their surprise, none of them were missing.

Relieved beyond their belief, the crewmen huddled together to decide who will be sent to the brig…

Well something's up here. Why isn't the saboteur killing anyone?

vote:Chaotix Because of what WH said and because you are claiming an oh-so-important role without saying what it is and at the same time trying to avoid Caius' mention much.

Chaotix

Fine then. Vote: FactionHeir because you're being way too nosey about other people's roles while not telling much about yourself.

Why should I be lynched just because you don't believe I have this special trait? So far, I (with Caius) have tried protect El Diablo from harm so that he wouldn't get killed. He has a very important ability, too. Does one of you have an investigator ability? I invite you to investigate who I am before you lynch me.

Okay so last night I stopped WH for doing anything.

Nothing happened again and once again this does not prove his guilt.

Now i feel that it either WH or Chaotix but that is just a hunch and I am pretty bad at sencing out mafia.

I would say....

vote Chaotix

For me, people, we have been fooled by Warmaster Horus. He has pointed that there has not being any kills, and therefore, I think that he tries to make himself a good person using that argument, but he is not. The guilt on WH won't never appear because he is waiting to hit in the right movement. Let's think about this: Who would let alive the role-blocker when he could catch you?

This isn't good.... If I am lynched, it will be bad news for the town. I strongly urge you all to reconsider.

I really have no idea who to vote for myself. The only one that I can truly believe is innocent right now is El Diablo, as he mentioned that he blocked Caius on Night 2 before he knew what I was going say, that I also knew Caius had been blocked because we were working together. Now, however, I don't even know if I can trust him.

Please reconsider your decisions, everyone. I won't vote for anyone yet myself.

Five days later...

The spy was smiled his crooked smile as he looked upon his quarry, locked behind a quantum shield of infinite complexity.

The remaining crewmen had quarrelled amongst themselves so much that the spy has been able to conduct his search undetected for the Captain-Elect. Without much difficulty, he has realised that none of the remaining crewmen has any clue about the location of Utopia, nor anything that suggests that they held knowledge about anything above their ranks. That would lead to one logical conclusion, that the Captain-Elect has been locked in the brig already.

How very fortunate…

It was not difficult to secure some explosive charges from the wrecked remains of the ship armoury, and soon the spy waited with barely bated breath outside the locked cell which contained the Captain-Elect, a red button held within his fingers.

KABOOM!

The brig door blasted open, and the spy walked calmly in.

“Hello there,” he said cheerfully to one of the two figures in the brig.

The Captain-Elect looked up, but said nothing.

“Hm… that is hardly the right attitude for something this important is it? Guess I’ll just let my Truth drug do its work then…” The spy almost sounded regretful, before roughly taking the Captain-Elect’s throat and shoved a purple tablet into his mouth.

The Captain-Elect’s face went white, and appeared almost to faint, but yet somehow still managed to remain in the sitting position.

“Now, tell me, where exactly is this Utopia thing??” asked the spy.

This time, the Captain-Elect has no choice but to answer.

---

As the last answer was forced from the Captain-Elect’s throat, he finally collapsed under the exhaustion of taking such a dangerous drug.

The spy was even more pleased now, if it was at all possible. The Council must be pleased now… maybe I will even get my own planet!

As he prepared to walk out of this half-ruined brig, a quiet voice cried out from the other side of the brig. “Wait! I…I’m on your side!”

The spy turned around, his custom-made Solarian blaster trained on the person from which the voice was emitted from. “How could you be on my side?”

“I…I…I am a half-Solarian… on my father’s side. I can help you on this ship, I…I can give you information that you can’t find out by yourself!”

The spy looked more closely at this supposed ‘sympathiser’, and saw that this crewman, the one that had been locked in the brig the first day after the attack, indeed has several human features amongst the otherwise alien face.

“Come on then, but beware, any hints of betrayal…” the spy did a motion with his blaster, and walked out. The sympathiser was happy beyond words that he has been spared, and followed the spy out of the brig, without so much as a second glance at the unconscious Captain-Elect.

---

The Guard was angry with himself, how could he had let his charge, his Captain-Elect, the Keeper of Secret be locked in the brig? He had tried again and again the following days to somehow get him out, but to no avail.

“Boo.” a voice said behind him.

“Wha-ARGGGHHHHH!” He had turned around, but as soon as he did, a fist punched into his face.

Before the Guard could react, the shadowy stranger lifted what appeared to be a Solarian blaster, and begun shooting at the defenceless Guard.

BOOM – green blood sprayed onto the deck.

BOOM – a broken tendril flew off, dripping blood as it flew across the room.

BOOM – an ominous crunching sound was heard as the Guard’s bones broke under the relentless wave of shots.

BOOM – a body crashed onto the floor.

“Alien scum…a waste of bullets…” muttered the spy as he walked away, leaving a bloody corpse in his wake.

---

The spy waited on the bridge of the starship “Hunter of the Zephyr” for the ship to complete the journey towards Hiero VI, the Solarian base where the bulk of the Solarian strike-fleet is based whilst they are waiting for his report on the location of Utopia, the secret enemy refuge which must be destroyed, before the aliens can be wiped out forever.

All the others are killed… well, apart from that dumb half-Solarian…he shall prove useful enough… if not… well, my blaster still got enough bullets to ki-

The spy was interrupted from his reverie when the inter-ship intercom suddenly flickered into life for the first time in a week. “Hello? Is anybody there? I repeat, is this the starship Hunter of the Zephyr?”

The spy was shocked, but quickly recovered and spoke into the laser microphone: “Yes…this is the Hunter of the Zephyer, we…are heavily damaged, I…I think there are only two of us left on this ship, we a-”

The voice did not let him finish speaking: “Okay… we will use our tractor beam to bring you into the fleet… activating in three, two, one…”

The spy barely had time to scream before his ship was pulled from light stream, and landed in the middle of the biggest Exarchate fleet gathered in history.

The spy looked at the huge fleet around him through the view screens – battered, broken ships filled his view, some are barely the size of a yacht, whilst others are huge lumbering fighter carriers. Yet they all have one thing in common, they are all clearly fleeing from terrible battles; they are all refugee ships from the Solarian war machine…

Perhaps I can wreck more havoc here before I return to base… the spy smiled his twisted smile, and thought of the untold glory that he would gain if he led this fleet into Solarian hands.

GAME OVER! It is a mafia victory! Congrats to Warmaster Horus!

Caius and Chaotix attempted to kill WH on night 2, but ED blocked Caius

One thing I am interested in for me planning for the next game is, did everyone managed to scheme behind the scenes? That was kinda the purpose of the game, I hoped anyway.

Any advice on how to improve this game?

Nice game, Shlin. Nice game  Very enjoyable, for me at least

For a little write-up, first night I investigated Caius (got 4 on random org, and he was the 4th player after me). Second night I investigated FH (I think; don't quite remember...). Since Caius was inactive during the first day, I hoped to pin the absence of kills on him. Third night I tried to get him myself, since he was active again and he was the Guard, but I was blocked! Gah!

Good game, though.

FactionHeir

shlin: Quite a bit of scheming. QJC, ED and myself were a little group, so we knew who attacked QJC night 3, because ED blocked WH and I protected QJC.
The investigative ability of the spy was a very nice touch.

It actually begun as a simple game with one King, one Guard, one Spy and 4 townies.

But then I thought the townie side is overpowered, so I added the investigate ability to the spy.

Then I thought the spy was overpowered, and so added the detective and the doctor.

And then I thought the mafia side is too weak, so I added a sympathiser.

And then I added a blocker to balance it out...

:sweatdrop:

I think the more people have a role, the more interesting the game gets because then everyone is involved.

What's the ability of the Doctor (aka Faction Heir)?

I think the more people have a role, the more interesting the game gets because then everyone is involved.

Exactly, it keeps everyone involved, alot of the resent mini mafia games are set out like that. Another upside to this is that everyone's PM is different so it's harder for town to root out the mafia by the age old simple PM quoting.

Great hosting Shin :2thumbsup:

Sorry about that guys. I had to pick one and I picked wrong. Although to be honest I would have probably asked for Caius to be lynched!!! (double oops)

Could I have gotten it any more wrong?

Good game though guys and well played WH.
