hi All,
About 175 years into my 1st campaign. Am english, doing pretty well. Destroyed the french a century ago along with the elmos. Control of Spain, N. Africa and what was Denmark and NOvgorod.
Despite 100 years of alliance, Germany invades flanders. I move to defend it. Pope is mad and cancels treaty with Germany.
Then, EVERY single province I have in spain revolts. (okay, maybe i can understand that). But in addition, Wales, Scotland and WEssex ALSO revolt!!! yikes.
what did i do wrong??
UGLY!!
It sounds as if you live in interesting times. As King, I am sure you will be up to the challenge.
I am curious where your king was? The location of your king in regards to revolting provinces is pretty important.
Also were there any major famines or plagues? That will do a hit to your loyalty in the affected province. And if one province revolts, there is a hit to surrounding provinces...it can spiral out of control pretty quickly. Revolts are contagious.

Revolts can happen in a variety of ways, especially if you are "all-powerful". The revolts probably happened because the happiness in those provinces dropped below 120. I for one always want to have more than 150 happiness to be on the safe side. Happiness can be changed by adding churches, watch towers, town watches, taverns, priests, tax rates (this is very important), etc. Happiness for your king and his empire can also drop with each battle lost. So always check each province's happiness from turn to turn and make sure it doesnt drop too low. If it is dropping, do something to bring it back up, and quickly. Revolts usually arent that tough, but can be devastating when you have revolts to take care of AND a front line to take care of.

And of course Robin of Lockelsy is leadnig the band in Mercia. I will string him up!!!

for an AI that "doesn't cheat", I've noticed 100% of the time the enemy sets up outside my mortar/arty field of fire, often in the least strategic part of the map just to do so.

Scout jsut click on a province - the happiness value is in the province info windo.
Soly IMO that says more about your ability to setup artillery properly than anythign else!! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif I find the enemy in front of my guns most of the time - even when my guns are bombards that can't turn!

Soly, I had a battle yesterday in which I shifted from the initial placement (on defense) to a lovely hill off to the left. I placed my ballista on the hill top.
Lo, and behold! The enemy is below the hill with their right flank to me! hehe
Naturally, I changed my defensive plan and just charged down the hill, immediately. My ballistae pinged away at the verdamt kataphractoi easily.

How many posts do we need complaining about the rebels? Maybe every new person to the forum has to make there own post on the subject. try searching and youll find its been done 50 million times!
Its not your forum isnt it R-Monkey. Why don't you just hop over there and wash your nuts again?

Something else worth checking and that is the loyalty of your generals and also your troops. If either has a no star loyalty then have them up for treason and execute!. Normally solves a lot of loyalty problems. The downside is it takes a little bit of time browsing through all your generals and troops!
technically the AI cannot cheat since it operates strictly by defined rules. We humans are intelligent enough to brake rules, and are thus capable of cheating.
I had for the first time a small rebellion early on in the game. It was quite interesting. I lost only two provinces and one of my best generals. I still don't quite know why, since my king was centrally located. I do know that I had an awful king (no stars whatsoever) and that he had died. He was replaced by a decent 5 star king. The king is dead, long live the king!

Somewhat different in the focus of this discussion, but talking of AI cheating, I find that AI has an extremely "Good Luck" in running away from my assassins. When I send an assassin after a princess, preacher/alims or emissaries, they "conveniently" hop over the sea via ports to a particularly heavily fortified enemy territory, where my assassin is nearly always beaten to death.
So really, when I send an assassin, I have to consider two factors -
(1) how likely is it that he will succeed in killing the target
(2) how likely is it that my assassin will stay alive at whichever province he will end up in
And (2) is a hard one to deal with...
BTW I like revolts! It gives me a fairly controlled way to easily raise my general's rank http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif Particularly if they are made up of peasants.

try keeping your assasins in provinces that have no port. with something there for bait, you'll draw enemies into territories they can't easily escape from.
