View Full Version : Starting Florins

Did a few searches and couldn't find anything relevant:
Is the following as intended: Different factions start the campaign game with different amounts of florins? Example- On H/H England starts the game with 10,000 florins yet on H/H Venice starts the game with 8,000 florins.
I'm used to florins being entirely determined by difficulty...(as in mtw). So, is this working as intended? Difficulty AND starting faction both come into play to determine starting florins in the bank?
Thanks.

Yep, that's how it works by default, uninfluenced by difficulty.

Hey Faction...and thanks for the reply.
Yeah, I see some guides on the web list the different starting florins by faction now. I was unable to find anything like that until a minute or two ago.
I was unaware that difficulty had no bearing on starting florins in m2 though...good to know.
Remember all my issues becoming resolved (or so it seemed)? I started that Venetian campaign last month? There were issues with manage all settlements and campaign battle time limit. For whatever reason, the config would not save these settings and it any reloaded campaign would toggle these features as off- and would NOT allow me to change them in game. In other words- I was forced to play with campaign battle time on and unable to manage settlements without governors.
Long story short (long)- I got things straightened out and I think everything really is a go this time.
Just wanted to check on the florins as I noticed the different starting amounts when I was testing my config etc out.
Anyway, if all goes as planned I'll probably be sticking around for a while. Hopefully nothing nasty crops up that brings me back to the lab again...
If you were having problems with the .cfg file, what you have to do is make the file read-only after you alter it so that it can't be changed.

It was far more complicated than just that. I'm on Vista- and altering the config file requires additional steps.
I've detailed the issue/resolution in previous posts. You need to run notepad as administrator and then adjust a non-read only config and then remark it as read only afterwards (outside of notepad).
There were still issues - but it seems to be resolved.
Wow. Every person who has it seems to convince me that Vista sucks even more... I think I'll stick with XP a little longer.

To be honest - I have had Vista for 5 months now and haven't had one issue with the OS. I like it.
This issue wasn't a Vista issue either. Nobody with $3,000+ of hardware should have to go editing internal code so that they can have a battle with more than 1,500 men on the screen. Either way, we did have to and it got us into these other issues. They weren't vista "problems", they were m2tw problems and the traditional fixes didn't work for vista users because everyone's experience with trial and error is from XP.
Hopefully Empire is optimized for Vista and not XP- As it's being released in 2009. It's definitely, time to go to Vista.
