Why is the message icon set to a default of the smiley? It's kind of jarring to see someone do some serious venting, and there being a smiley at the top of their post...

Couldn't we set it to the one I used?

i sometimes forget to change the tone of my post by adjusting the smily option, but by now it's become to ubiquitous I doubt anyone pays attention to it beyond the first new topic post.

Nah, I'd prefer the "message pinned to the wall" message icon. Then, if people want to personalize their posts, to convey their meaning, then they could choose the smiley, or the frown, or the glasses, or the wink, or the scowl.

It's just weird to see someone saying "This sucks!" and have a http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif at the top of their post.

Its because the Org used to be by default such a nice happy place.

I normally use the smiley with shades. Not saying my statements are cool... just that they may need to be read in a relaxed laid back state to take it in the right context.

Yeah, and maybe it will be again once a patch is released and problems/bugs/issues are fixed by CA/Activision.

It's especially jarring when someone posts about horrors in the world with the smilie on top.

I like it in a general way. The http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/icons/icon1.gif is the only other thing that would work well.
