I just wanted some insights on honour level for the different units. I read some posts, stating that
HA needs at least 4 to be effective at all.
Now, the other units, are they just as sensitive, or is it enough to get YS, h2? CA? ND? etc, etc.

Balanced army you say, what does that come down to?

Great response on my first post, "which unit does Taisho end up in in Custom", I eagerly await samples of your collected wisdom...

Krast recommmends that new players find the list of unit values ... fergit where to go to find it ...

that will help to figure out how much Hon you need.

Krast uses Yari troops with higher hon than No-Dachi and monks, but other players like the high hon monk ... matter of choice and style, really.

Oh, I meant YA, which I presume you understood, compelled to remark nonetheless. I am learning though, so I thank you. Any suggestion to the question posted?

YOU WILL LEARN THAT DIFFERANT MAPS/POSITION, ATTACKING/DEFENDING, SEASONS, OR OPPONENTS WILL REQUIRE YOU TO MODIFY YOUR STANDARD ARMY.

YOU WILL DEVELOP YOUR STANDARD ARMY BY TRIAL AND ERROR. THE STANDARD FOR PICKING UNITS IS WHAT WORKS FOR U AND WHAT UNITS ARE U COMFORTABLE WITH.

MY STANDARD/TOURNEY ARMY IS AS FOLLOWS:

1- YARI ASHI H-8 (GENERAL)
1- YARI CAV H-2
1- CAV ARCHER H-0
3- MUSKETS H-3
1- SAM. ARCHER H-1
1- SAM. ARCHER H-0
2- YARI SAM H-2
4- WARRIOR MONKS H-1
2- NO-DACHI H-2

THIS IS THE ARMY I START WITH AND THEN MODIFY IT ACCORDING TO CONDITIONS STATED ABOVE.

HOPE THIS HELPS AND SORRY FOR ALL CAPS.

AWESOME RAZOR, THAT WAS THE KIND OF INFO I WISHED TO SEE. I NOTICE THAT ARCHERS (IN ANY FORM) DO NOT HAVE HIGH HONOUR. I SUPPOSE THAT IS BECAUSE THEY WON'T ENGAGE IN ANYTHING BUT RANGED WARFARE? YOU GIVE ONE ARCHER UNIT H1 THOUGH, IS THAT FOR CRITICAL MISSIONS?

Oh, the caps...

Well I would use Archers for flanking after they have finished off the arrows.

Well I will give you my stabndard army as well.
2 SA H1 & H2
2 Musks H0
3 Yari Sam 3 H2
1 Yari Sam Taisho H3
5 Monks H2
2 ND H2
1 Yari Cav H2

LOL http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif The h-1 archer came about because I had extra Koku and no where else to spend it.

In my experience archer units do not survive long in melee combat unless u devote alot of money to them and build up their honour. Then their main job is still too shoot arrows.

They do not need high honor to shoot arrows from the second or third rank. I then use them to chase routed enemies and as flanking units. I will send them into mellee with a flank attack to gain a numbers advantage in a certian part of the battlefield. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Thinking very straight, the nags should be an optimal unit to stack the general in defence, obviously, no mobility. What is your xperience?

Great input people, I do appreciate it!

Well there is a long threwad discussing which unit should be use as general. It should be in the startegy archive section. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

I use a Yari Sam as General, the reason for this is it can handle Cav. With its speed you should be able to move it if it gets in trouble and can fight for quite a while if you put enough honour into the unit.

U guys are great! Thx.
H2 seem to be the least you give hth combat unit. Any specific reason why this is the minumum limit? Is there a special bonus kicking in at that specific H?

Hello,
Yes if u lower the hnr level ur men lose certain factors: the opposit of raising!! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
only lower hnr level in low koku games! (that is if ur a newbie . . . if u know what ur doing [experanced] then u can delibrately lower hnr level to raise other etc . . . etc)
