View Full Version : Hospitaliter Foot Knights, a (minor) bug?

I've read on this page that the HFK's are considered too weak. In looking into the original crusaderunit files i found at least one of the reasons for this: While they are meant to use their shield in melee (YES at the aprobriate position), their shield modifier is 0 - zero! If you have them in battle, press F1 and you see, that they get no shield bonus in armor and defense. I guess this is a typo, why give them a shield to use in melee and no bonus from it. If they are meant to receive no benefit from their shields in melee, give them a NO for shield usage in melee, so that it only affects missile defense. (But their weapon is not a bihander like the Varangian Guards axe, who get a NO for usage of their shield in melee)

Considering their rather big looking shield I gave them a shield modifier of 1 (like Feudal Men at Arms) and their perfomance increased remarkably. But even a shield modifier of 0.5 would give them better performance.

Varangians have a 0.5 modifier to their large shield. In combat it protects the back of them. But that is hardly more than eyecandy as only the fighting men have it there, so using archers to lower the enemy's numbers is not a good way as most of the Varangians have their shields facing forwards anyway.

But yeah, I agree it is a bit odd that the Hospitallers have a 0.0 modifier to their large shield.
