Dosidataskeli were removed due to controversy (they may be not historicaly accurate), but you can change something in the script to make them aviable (somebody will tell you where exactly). The same goes for Dunaminaca and Goildic heavy infantry.

Check "Atanamir" reply. Tell's you how to enable recruitment of those guys. Btw, they are only recruitable in 2 provinces. Can you guess where?

Anyway, they are available only in the two most north-central Iberian towns. Sorry, forgot their names at the moment.

WHAAAT!?!?! Are you absolutely sure about that? When were they removed? Dosidataskeli were the main reason I wanted to try the Lusotannan, even though I have never tried a barbarian faction before in either RTW or EB (I'm too civilised!). Mainly this was because of the fact that I am a traits person, and in RTW, the so called "barbarian" generals had a lot fewer traits to gain. It was practically impossible in RTW to get a barbarian general who had 10 influence and management, which was actually quite easy with the Roman generals. Now that the traits system has been changed and now I might actually try a barbarian faction in EB. I looked at the units and decided I liked the Iberians the best, but without the Dosidataskeli it won't be nearly as much fun!

What about the Dubosaverlacica (Ebherni Armoured Shock Infantry)? Are they still in the game? Why are the Dosidataskeli out of the game while the Thorakitai Agematos Basilikou (Hellenic Elite Spearmen) are still in it - the Seleukid counterparts are even more heavily armoured?

Also, how can I put back the Dosidataskeli in the EB campaign. I know that they are ahistorical, after all, the first time I saw them (I wasn't playing EB then, I was just deciding which mod should I choose RTR or EB) I thought that there was no way such a unit was historical. After all, the unit is unrealistic as well as ahistorical. How can a man fight and move in that much armour without tiring after a minute of combat anyway? The answer is he cannot.

Lastly, who are the Dunaminaca and Goildic heavy infantry? I couldn't find them in the online EB units list. Could anyone post picture/unit stats?

Amelius Well in EB it is no problem to get Gens in "Barbarian" general with 10 Management, and 10 Influence. And as for the lack of Traits, this aint Vanila ma, this is on a compleatly diferent level, and the barbarians have almoust so many traits as do the "Civilised" guys.

I doubt that this armor really is that much heavier than a full plate mail, the use of which by foot soldiers in later times is fact.

As I said before, i don't think that the armor itself makes the units unrealistic/unhistorical, so there is a considerable difference between the units although they look similar, because of the "veil". From my unknowing point of view I consider it by far more probable that the largest empire at the starting date would be able to equip a picked few with such heavy armor than a tribal backwater kingdom (meant to emphasize, not to mock).

I guess Goidilic heavy infantry is an untechnical term for the Dubosaverlacica (they are goidilic, after all). The Dunaminaca you can find here:

Ouch! A mistake. The Dunaminaca were not removed - they are the Celtiberian guys. I wanted to say Dubosaverlacica. And Goildic heavy infantry are the two-handed hammer wielding troops.

Yeah, well I did say that "Now that the traits system has been changed and now I might actually try a barbarian faction in EB." in my previous comment. What I have noticed is that getting 10 influence and management in EB is much easier even for the Roman and Hellenic generals than in RTW.

Oh and also, can anyone tell me how can I put back the Dosidataskeli in the EB campaign now that they have been removed.

EDIT: Oops, never mind. Just found the answer to the question!

Dosidataskeli weren't removed because their existence was questioned (IIRC they have been described by Greeks from the Iberian colonies), but because it was a royal guard unit of a minor tribe. In other words, they would not have been fielded in significant numbers. The team has not given a reason for disabling the recruitment of Dubosaverlacica, but I am guessing historical accuracy played a role.

Thorakitai Agematos Basilikou are based on an archeological find: an elaborate chainmail vest with facial veil. Combined with comments on a 1000 man strong inner-elite of hypaspists in the Seleucid army, the team postulated the existence of a thureopheroi-style elite infantry squad. This is somewhat tenuous, as the 1000 men could also be the King's companion cavalry, but frankly we have preciously little information on successor elites so one has to speculate. The current unit doesn't look like the archeological find, BTW: the model was adapted so the Dosidataskeli and Dubosaverlacica could use it as well.

As for the armour argument, Lysimachos is quite right. In fact, a full suit of armour would have weighed not much less than what a modern soldier has to carry. That does not mean that fighting in it would be easy, and they probably would have needed to rest quite frequently, but it's far from impossible.

Yeah. demonstration: an English historian ran the same 200 meter distance that the hoplites ran at Marathon in full panoply and demonstrated that a fit man could do it without tiring. These men (in the dosidataskeli) are the fittest of the fit (except maybe some Hellenic dudes in the Olympics) and very powerful men picked because they can fight in such heavy armour.

Its not so much the weight as the great design of the armour, fish scales and chain. One stops spears, etc well and the other provides cushioning and strong protection against most stuff but piercing
