View Full Version : Microsoft Seinfeld Commercials
Well, the first one came out, and I've watched it, and I've really, really tried to make sense of it. But I just can't figure it out.
They're paying huge money for this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afR5J7eskno). Anybody care to tell me why?

Seinfeld is the most truly-nothing disorganization of random idiocy I've ever seen. Watching Peter Griffin moaning on the floor holding his bruised leg can knock me off the chair, if we're talking about something trying to achieve being truly nothing.
I didn't even click that linky. "Seinfeld" word already stands for itself.
Yuck.
Something about cake I think...
What freaks me out is that this campaign is supposed to make up for Windows Vista's perception problems. This strange, painful stuff (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afR5J7eskno) is going to wipe out your bad memory of User Access Control.
Just a little background (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gIiC0f4ECVVPCVVRQexjLv6ldVtwD92MSD701) so's you can understand what this exercise is supposed to mean:
Microsoft picks Jerry Seinfeld to promote Windows
SEATTLE, Aug 21, 2008 — Comedian Jerry Seinfeld will appear in Microsoft Corp.'s next Windows advertising campaign.
A person familiar with the plans confirmed a Wall Street Journal report Thursday that named Seinfeld as the company's new pitchman. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition on anonymity because the plans have not been formally announced.
Seinfeld is being brought on board to help brighten Microsoft's image as the company tries to move past its bumpy launch of Windows Vista.

Somewhat amusing. Though I'm not sure on the exact point.

Bah! Heresy!

.
I like Seinfeld's NBC grotesque pretty much but this commercial is, like the majority of its kind, garbage.

I think the message of the commercial is "if the shoe fits, wear it".

Wow, that made it make perfect sense. Vista was "tight" and wearing it for a while will fix it (ie updates).

Commercial #2:
The Family (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/?CMXID=2120.536BDE86-4F43-4F76-8F97-EC70EB3BE670&WT.srch=1)
That one seems to say Microsoft is getting among the common user to understand what they need.

Chalk me up as another :inquisitive: response. Sorry guys, but I also hated Seinfeld. Normally I'm apathetic to most sitcoms, but Seinfeld was so bad I couldn't even force myself to watch it, it was so annoying. Now they've got Jerry hawking Windows with Willyburger, in strangely ambiguous commercials. Greeaattttt... Oh well, I guess if you've got a hundreds-of-billions-of-dollars warchest like MS does, you can afford to waste some cash now and then.
:balloon2:
Oh this subject I agree entirely with Penny Arcade (http://www.penny-arcade.com/images/2008/20080915.jpg).*
*Obligatory warning: Comic contains one f-bomb.
I loved Seinfeld and still think it was one of the funniest sitcoms ever. I find the current commercials amusing and I will gladly stop and watch them. That doesn't change the fact that I will never, ever buy Vista nor do I trust Microsoft to produce products that I actually want to own. The commercials are a step in the right direction towards mimicking Apple's success, but Microsoft seems to be oblivious that Apple's success is also largely due to the quality (be it real or perceived) of its products. Until their products improve, commercials will not help their business, no matter how amusing they are.

The awesomely bad campaign has been dropped (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/09/18/seinfeld_campaign_over/), it seems.

I watched the entire thing the first time I saw one of those commercials. I was expecting a punchline.

The second one wasn't so bad, there were some funny moments, even if it failed utterly in its goal to... well, whatever its goal was.
The "I'm a PC" ad is very good.
Take that Apple!!!!!

Alright, time to bring in the heretic-hunters.
The "I'm a PC" ad is very good.
Which ad is that?

I clicked your link in post #11 and it showed up instead of the Family ad. ~D

And very produced on Macs (http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08/09/19/microsofts_im_a_pc_campaign_created_with_macs.html). :bounce:

It was probably the ad company that used Macs, not Microsoft itself.

Not to forget that Steve Jobs himself said that Microsoft is one of the biggest software developers for the Mac!

Hahahah!
My MS 'ad' was Gates Windows 98 presentation with a crash (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDtniZcoFAw), with the reaction: "Whoaoooo...".
