Well, sticking to Beethoven to start, try 'Fur Elise'. It's short and not quite in the same temperment, but you may like it. In fact, it's rather hard to match temperment (At least for me) in classical, so you may find you don't care for any of my recommendations, but good luck. :beam:
Then try 'Claire De Lune' by Claude Debussy, which you'l recognize as infinitely abused in advertisements.
'Pavane' by Gabriel Faure is another possibility, although the pacing is faster it's still somewhat melancholic.
'Canon' by Johann Pachelbel is worth a listen, although the mood it evokes is more difficult to describe.
You should also look into opera, as you'll find plenty of melancholy there. :2thumbsup:
If you're interested in more powerful, grim sort of music, one of my favorite pieces is 'Totentanz' by Franz Liszt. Also in that vein 'A Night on Bald Mountain' by Modeste Mussorgsky.
Don't limit yourself to one style of classical either, try it all out. Oh, and I'm more of an orchestral fan than a pure piano fan, so you might want to ask someone who plays piano for their recommendations. Solo piano pieces are more likely, I would guess, to have that sort of tone you're seeking.
:egypt:
Similar to Moonlight Sonata, just about everything Chopin and almost everything Satie.

For me, the epitome of melancholy is the Adagio in G minor (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mz4dpbk8YBs), by Tommaso Albinoni. You really want to listen to it in a great Norman cathedral - or a recording of same.
If we go in a more general direction, I tend to entertain myselve with the thought of putting a big speaker on that floating cough attack I call my boat, of course with Dvorak's requiem.

so I was wondering if you had heard or if you can recomend me more similar music with the melancholic feeling Try "Requiem" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Thanks! :beam:
I also bealive that pure piano represents better the kind of feeling I'm looking for, like Satie and Chopin
I might add that I'm looking for a melody to hear whilst I read a book, wich has a kinda melancholic feeling, so even though I agree that orchestras are great, they distract me somehow, that's why I prefer the more peaceful pure piano :beam:
But then again not all of the pure piano melodies are melancholic , like fur elise, to me it has a diferent feeling somehow
thanks for the replies! :bounce: :balloon3::balloon::balloon3::balloon3:
If you have any other suggestion... great!

I know it's not what you're looking for, but you haven't lived until you've listened to the Siegfried Funeral March (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20RldhK9354). Something else you might be interested in is Gregorian chanting - as seen here. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dlr90NLDp-0)

Many Chopin nocturnes and preludes have a similar mood. From the impressionistic period, some Debussy (e.g. Claire De Lune (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjOMRftQI9s)) and Ravel.
To a degree (at least in part), Rachmaninoff's Prelude in C-Sharp Minor (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Wddtne7KSs).

Another of my favorites is the 12 Girls Band. They take Chinese traditional music and spice it up for the modern era. They also take modern music and give it a Chinese classical feel.

Try Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto. One of the two most beautiful Violin Concertos (the other being Alban Berg's) of all times.
It may be classified Romantic rather than Classical but anyway...
Tchaikovsky's 4th Symphony, I believe, could be fit to your taste as well.

Nobody does Erlkönig like Fischer-Dieskau (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5B6nysheec)...though Anne von Otter (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdhRYMY6IEc) does quite a decent rendition, if not a traditional one.

Okay, I apologize for spamming, and I come back to confess that, despite his disgusting Jew hatred*, Richard Wagner is probably my favorite musical composer. I've listened to very little of his music, much less any classical music at all, but Siegfried's Funeral March (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20RldhK9354) is my favorite song so far, out of any classical music I've heard. And yes, I heard it first in Hans Zimmer's remake of the song in Gladiator, but the original is always better.
The big problem I have with classical is that it's way too intense to be listened to with regularity, or at just about any other time other than sitting around, alone in a room, hammered on whisky that would make the average Classical listener vomit instantly.
*If I ever got the chance, I would love to adapt Der Ring Des Nibelungen into a movie -- with an all-Jewish cast, just to **** with Wagner.
