I've been trying to find the exact text and source of a quote that once popped up in MTW2. It went something like:


If you only you understood with how little understanding the world is ruled.

I think it was by a pope.

Can anyone familiar with this quote point me in the right direction? :book:

I recall seeing it there now that you mention it.

Wherever I saw it (I have seen it) I found it thought provocative as well. I've looked around a little already and can't find the source.

I have seen this attributed to Axel Oxenstierna (Danish Chancellor at the time of the 30 Years War)

From 1632, in German "Weisst du denn nicht, mein Sohn, mit wieviel Dummheit die Welt regiert wird?"

Also, in a letter of 1648, in Latin: "An nescis, mi fili, quantilla prudentia mundus regatur"

Also attributed to the French Statesman, Cardinal Richlieu. And apparently quoted by Adolf Hitler in Mein Kampf.

If it is in the game though, it is probably given this attribution: Pope Julius III (1487 - 1555)
