So Last night I was playing My russian Campaign. I'm really hitting Hungary Hard for their Betrayal. I sent 3 groups of boyar son's and 2 Spearmen and they countered with 4 Feudal Knights and 1 catapult. I had the high ground (more like a 4 degree angle hill) I charged forward with my Boyar in my center and My spearmen on the flanks. Both my spears engaged 1 group of knights as for my boyars was 3 ov 3. If I read correctly boyars are good against armor yet they were Routed by The Feudal knights???? how?

My guess would be: because you played it out wrong.

A) 2 units of spears on 1 unit of knights = waste of the spears... Use a boyar son to flank / attack from behind instead of another spear unit for some results.

B) Force the other knights to follow you around as you take them down unit by unit...

That's pretty much it....

You will not win a head-on encounter with that setup, but some tactical thinking and quick fingers (or pause button) might do the trick.

Godspeed:)

I believe the Boyar javelins are armor piercing. In melee they are far weaker than knights. I'd try to pin the enemy on my spearmen, then use the Boyar javelins at the shortest possible range.

their weapons is AP too...

But yes, use javelins before engaging in melee, I didn't mention it as I thought it was rather obvious:)

That is a whole other situation...

I assume it was mounted knights, if so, no normal pizza... err.... person could win that fight.

Yes, my boyars and the Feudals were dismounted

I guess it can be done if you bend the game mechanics all over...

However, I would make what my officer would call a "tactical withdrawal".

For a civilian that means: RUN FOREST RUN!

Feudals overall have better stats iirc. Flaming catapult also is a bad thing.
Outside of that, feudals tear through spearmen, so really it was 4 vs 3.2

Boyar sons good.

EDIT:

Maybe I'm the only one who thought it was funny. The OP topic question "Boyar Sons Good????",
My response, "Boyar Sons Good."

:clown:

Perhaps that doesn't quite cover it, but it's to the point, direct, and decisive. I like that.

Boyar sons are pretty powerful, but like any unit they will waver or flee if faced with a low-morale situation or are being worn down on the flanks, or if they are facing an enemy with a weapon they are weak against, or if the enemies' defense rating is high and the unit's numbers are dropping.

Dismounted Dvor has exactly the same melee stats as Dismounted Boyar.
Not sure if they have different attack animations but considering they have a ranged attack
there is little incentive to train dismounted boyar/druzinha once you can supply enough dism.dvors.

Yea, Another... whats the point of the russia having dismounted boyar & druzinha when they technically have the same stats
