well guys tonight it finally happened, i managed to get into a fight in a three way battle, with me (HRE) with 5k units, the turks with 5k and the civil war faction of the turks with 3.5k... the battle was not long enough though http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif It started with the rebels on a quick offence right into my right flank (i hate how attackers cant deploy) so there i was wheeling my army arround to face this threat. Well i held them off, for all five waves, or was it four... anyway, after fighting, wheeling, redeploying, fighting ect for 1 hour i managed to finally have them done with, i only had to use 3 re-enforcments by then.

the next part was crazy, i had to march across egypt with my already tired armies (no bars) then i redeployed and sat along a nice little rdge, waiting for them all to gain 1 bar before launching the next attack. This time i baited my enemies and slaughtered them with my pav arbs, thne fended off the rest. This nearly broke my buggered armies, and the next wave of thiers was a doozy. All mounted troops, and the quickly overwhelmed my depleted and tired armies, and soon i was in a full rout, protecting my general as he ran (7 stars), and he made it safly to the routers hall of fame, but lived.

after that on came the counter wave of mine, and i quickly dealt them a smashing blow with my fresh armies, and it was another long march back across the map, and by now the timer was nearly done, so i baited and slaughtered, baited and slaughtered, but as the time reached it last 10 mins i let on the full assault, but to no avail, they broke, regrouped, and then the time ran out... 3hrs long, and a messy battlefeild at the end, i took 1k casualties, the rebels were slaughtered, and after slaying all thier prisoners, the turks suffered 3k losses... i guess ill fight the next battle tomorrow when the RSI has worn off

Magnificent battle, but don't you just hate it when you have fought one of these type battles, held off wave after wave, got a 3 to 1 kill ratio, but then finally had to route.

Even though you lost the battle, and even thought it probably will help you eventually win the war, the most discouraging thing is that your 7 star general who performed to his utmost ability, until he was overwhelmed, gets a bad V & V because of it. That ain't right.

my lord thats right... now he is a coward... ahh well, i ended up taking on the rest of the turkish remants in the next attack, and managed to wipe them out... this time i used my fuedal sergeants instead of my chivalric ones... i tihnk have tired troops is bbetter than totally exhausted

Yeah. If commanders didn't automatically get vices for losing a single battle I'd be willing to keep playing after on of those epic confrontations. As it is, reload.

what i still cant grasp, if i auto calc and win, then its not a penalty, but if i play it out, and even win after the general routs, then i get a vice

Just wondering wheter you can "withdraw" a general instead of flee.... to stop him picking up the bad vice (or at least not get the dreaded "coward" vice)

From an attrition standpoint, it was a solid victory for you. Except for the silly vice thing which is really a design flaw and not your fault, you shouldn't feel bad about that one.

Sometimes stuff like that battle actually happens... One side suffers far more grievous losses but wins the battle.

i just said in another post fudeal sergents are better than chiv sergeats, simply on the poor morale issue.

in a smaller scale i had a great victory inbetween my 1k troops, the enemies 2k troops and the rebels 800 troops. in the same hand, i held off 3300 turks with 4 regular pikes on a bridge, used alternately. ( i also had 2 cannons )

well after fighting the 3rd and decisive victory of my campagin against the turks (the brought their large northern army to quell my assault in the south) i managed to make the game swictch completely to my way.

after the first turkish rebellion, the managed to stabilise, and i left my troops defending my borders while re-enforcing, and consolodating my gains... well anyway, the third battle was a killer easily won for me, but it was the end of the turks, the year after they had one large civil war, follwed by another, then another... soon they were down to about 3 proviences in turkey... the may have been able to get most back, if it werent for the egyptians taking over what i didnt bribe in time (re-appearing hier)

well basically my map is like this now, all of western europe to the modern day russian borders is mine, i own south as far as greece, constantinople and arabia, the rest is divided up between egypt, turks, mongols and russians, so in the next 30 years, i could wipe them out, but prefering to go a little slow ill decide on taking another 50

Not at the moment. As is now, a unit that is walking off, seemingly the loss of their number makes the last few off route rather than walk off, meaning you'd get the vice anyway. This is supposadly fixed in the patch so afterwards if things are really looking bad you can withdraw before you route. The Coward vice really should be reversible by winning a few battles. Also some vices are seemingly only avaliable through birth, i often throw my generals headfirstinto the battle, and never get rewarded with a - brave beyond belief, legendary leader, famous warrior or killer. The best i've ever got is 'hideous scars'. Sort it out CA.

In the meantime (10 years or so) you'll have to win every battle you ever fight or pay the concequences.
