I have a similar problem installing EB except that I didn't go out and buy Rome Total War (gold edition) in the store. I purchased it through steam. I also had my computer reformatted in the past so all my files are on my D: Drive. RTW gold is installed as follows... < D drive, program files, steam, steammaps, common, Rome Total War Gold.> I installed everything except recruitment viewer into Rome total war gold folder and when i try to launch either EB singleplayer or Multiplayer i keep getting an application error that says "Failed to find Steam" I click okay and it opens up a window to http://store.steampowered.com/. I even tried going on steam to add a non steam game to the games list but it can't find it even when i try to manually browse through it. This was the second time that I uninstalled and reinstalled this mod. If anyone out there has any advice I would greatly appreciate your help.

See the installation guide.

Which installation guide? You mean the one that came with the mod? If so then that would be the "installation script". Let me copy and paste the installation script. It doesnt seem to look like an installation guide at all.

"InstallScript"
{
"Registry"
{
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\The Creative Assembly\\Rome - Total War - Gold Edition\\1.6"
{
}

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\The Creative Assembly\\Rome - Total War - Gold Edition"
{
"string"

Im ready to give up. I love rome total war and i was very interested in installing this mod but for days i could not get this mod to work. I dont know if its because I need the actual game instead of having purchased it through steam or that i downloaded the mod in the wrong folder. If anyone out there has any real advice other than telling me to go read an installation guide im all ears.

He means the installation guide in the Important information for forum users thread.

Yes. Seeing as that has the instructions for how to get it to work with Steam.

You need more patience. It can take ten minutes or more the first time you run it.
