How do i install the patch???

I dl it and double clicked and it says this will use 35mb of storage space , ok i think and then nothing http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

I have mtw installed on my desktop as i had to install it on a different machine on my lan and then transfer the files across ( disks wouldnt work in my prefered machine either http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif ). could this be it? an abnormal installed location??

I would say there is a very good chance that is the problem. Most install packages look in the registry to determine where the app is. Your registry must not say the right thing.

Disclaimer:
This can screw your machine royaly if not done right

on the machine you really did the install on:
Open a command prompt and type regedit.

Snoop around and find where the registry settings for the game are and try to duplicate them on the second machine changing the paths where needed.

Can't tell you more 'cuz I'm at work and don't have it installed here.

the readme with the patch claims that if it can't automatically locate the MTW directory you installed too, you can select it manually. hence I doubt this would be what is disrupting your install.

originally i just dragged it from the other C drive onto the other desktop and put it as shared then copied it onto my desktop .
I cant make the patch work and ive waited soooooooo long http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

The first time I DL'd the patch, I had the same message, (or at least it sounds similar). It occured to me that it had come down rather faster than i expected, so I deleted it and DL'd it again. This time it took about 5 minutes to DL, but installed ok when i ran the exe.
Maybe it's worth trying to DL it again?

Still have the original CDs? Why don't reinstall it where you want the game to be. This way you can avoid all problems with the registry stuff.

To move the game folder, cut-and-paste will work. And you may need to edit desktop short cut for the game too. However, the patch may not be able to locate the correct game folder.

In my case, I copied the game from secondary drive to primary drive and the patch only recognize the copy in my secondary drive (original installation folder). I had to uninstall (and delete both folders) then reinstall the game.

the problem is that the machine that is capable of installing the game cant play it and my decent machine wont install it ( i get the laucher screen , click install then nothing happens ) . Tech support couldnt help me with this ( they said after a 4 hour phonecall that it is the weirdest thing they ever had ) so im resigned to dragging it off my other comp through my lan . http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif
