In wessex I cannot build the Shipbuilder's Guild. I have a citadel and a dockyard. I even have the Admiralty. According to the tech tree all I need is a dockyard and citadel which I have.

In Norway how do I make Vikings?? The tech tree says that I need only a fort but they are not available.

Thx.

Hi, for some strange reason you have to build the cannon foundry b4 you can build the guild ship yard.So you need the gunpowder event, then bulid cannon foundry then the icon for guild yard will appear.

You can only build viking if you are danish and (russian i think)

As the other poster stated, you have to take a deeper look at the tech tree.

For instance, two events influence what buildings you can build. There's the Compass and Gunpowder events. So see what buildings are dependent on them.

For units, pay careful attention to those teeny/tiny shields. You'll see, for instance, that the Vikings unit (on the tech tree) has a shield at its base that has a red lion on a gold field. That's the shield for Denmark. So, only Denmark can build Vikings. Then there's also colors around some of the buildings (or the letters have that color) on the units tech tree. That means that only the selected religions can build that unit. (Red = Catholic, Green = Muslim, Purple = Orthodox)

So there's a lot of detail packed into the tech tree.

Hope this helps.

Russians cant make vikings, but I believe the people of Novograd (sp?) can. They can also make longboats too.

Remember that some of the faction-specific units can be got by building an inn & hoping for mercenaries to turn up.

As Almohad i have got longbowmen this way, & have been offered vikings in other campaigns as well. Not sure if this is affected by the patch or not.

What's the deal with 'Events'?

According to the tech tree gunpowder will be available in 1260. Is this what you are referring to?

When is compass available?

What are the other events?

The only event on the *techtree* is gunpowder. In the manual (p34), gunpowder is also the only one mentioned.

Note that there are other things wrong in the techtree :
- the mine-complex is on the level-four line, but you can build it right after you have a normal mine
- according to the techtree you need a keep to get your farmland to 40%, but in the game you don't have to
- on the techtree it puts an arrow between the keep and the church/mosque, but you also neeed the keep for the other buildings on level two (except the farmland)

The lesson is : don't look at the building-techtree too much :-)
