Its a whale shark. A krill and plankton eating gentle giant. Essentially a water born vacuum that sucks up tiny lifeforms for food. In no way is it a fresh water nor man eater.

But wouldn't that be cool, I mean a giant catfish, now that would be one heck of a dinner.

It doesn't look anything like a catfish (no barbels etc.). :inquisitive:

I only read the top part :/

My mom sent this to me under the title "WOW! Wouldn't you have loved to fish this out?"

And once i read through two or three paragraphs i popped it on here didn't know the whole story changed halfway through it.

Indeed!

That fish has at least five sets of gills…shark!

My grand father caught a 102lb catfish. I have heard the stories of monster catfish but no one is yet to pull one out or show it…

That was only a hoax.... that "catfish: are actually just a small shark, and that human remains are actually just shark's intestines that looks like feet with cr***h... remember that chinesse have darker skin that westerners, and that human remains are actually has the same colour from that fish's flesh...

But the largest catfish that i have ever seen is just 1.5 meter's long, they actually live in the forested mountain river near my Bandung (lembang....) and they didn't eat humans, we eat them....

A real big catfish is to be found here http://www.monstersandcritics.de/artikel/200817/article_75810.php/Deutsche-Angler-fingen-2-5-Meter-langen-Wels

Best thing: the guy let the fish back into the water, nobody eats an old catfish like that, at least in my area. This one was 2,51 meters long and weighed 117 kg.

Every so often you hear that a little dog was eaten by a giant catfish that's supposed to live in some of these dark waters (at least here in Western Germany)... Do you think that's true?

I have seen a documentary on arte tv not too long ago. It sais it could well be a little "Dackel" was eaten by one of the bigger buggers. I like catfishes...alive! They are beautiful in my eyes! Well, I live right next to the Danube and it is fascinating to thing "There could be a 2,5 meter long fish right next to my doorstep".

So it could be really true!? I really like the thought that things like this could happen... imagine an old woman whose dackel gets eaten, and then she gets sucked into the water at the dog leash!! Also think of model makers who test their model submarines in the lake, and then suddenly lose contact... harhar!! :laugh4:

Apparently y'all ain't never heard of the "Big Fish Tale." These guys are just trying to get some extra bragging rights with their construction worker buddies by passing a whale shark off as a catfish. No harm, no foul.

Uh... naw, dude. Can't happen. Unless the dog was less than 6 inches long.

Thats actually a pretty small Whale Shark...

Catfish are freshwater fish, and I find it exceedingly unlikely that they could grow to the massive proportions usually found only in open ocean in ponds

I don't care what or how big it is, all I see is something that should be fried and in my belly.

There are saltwater catfish.... hardheads and gafftop sailfish.

This has pictures of two of some of the largest catfish ever caught. The article is about the man-eating catfish that's lurking in rural India. Its suspected in the disappearance of several people in the water and a water buffalo.

http://animal.discovery.com/tv/river-monsters/

This is the guy who investigated the giant man-eating Goonch catfish hypothesis and concluded it wasn't any other native animal due to the suction attack, shape, and color reported by bystanders. The TV show is pretty interesting as well, especially the Amazon one.
