I'm playing as Koinon Hellenon in 243b.c. and sent one of my diplomats to ally with Rome, but for some reason there is no option for alliance. Does anyone know whats wrong?

You`re at war with one of their allies, or they are at war with one of your allies.

Or you destroyed one of their allies. If this is the case, then you'll never be able to get an alliance.

I haven't managed to get any allies. Every single person neighboring is at war with me.From Rome to pontus and the selucids, they all hate me . I think they were allied with Epeiros, who I killed off a long time ago. I guess it doesn't matter now, since they just attacked one of my cities. Any tips for getting an alliance so I don't have people attacking me and trying to kill me on every front?

Alliances won't change anything. Your allies won't help out in your wars and as soon as they sense weakness on your borders with them they will backstab you. Diplomacy in any TW game is completely useless.

Why`s that? Isn`t it logic that if you`re at war with a nation that`s friends with another, you can`t befriend the second faction?

Examples are aplenty in history. In this timeperiod, the episode with Syphax during the second punic war.

I assume that he is talking about how it's impossible to befriend the allies of an extinct nation. I guess it's more of an oversight than a design decision though. What bugs me the most is that your allies do bugger-all when you get attacked. What kind of twisted alliance is that? It is one of the things that made me stop playing EB and switch to EUIII for now.

Absolutely true. In my current Romani game I have been paying the Saba 500 mnai every turn (not as regular tribute but as single 500 mnai sums every turn) for about years hoping that they will start giving me some money back. I have read on the forums that by giving a small, regular amount of money to your allies will eventually prompt them to give you back, especially in large sums. Saba, according to the faction summary is the richest faction in my current campaign. My seasonal income is unrivaled but I spend every last pence of it. The Saba seem to be spending the lowest amount of money and as a result have accumulated exorbitant amounts of gold.

So anyway, just as I have conquered Alexandreia and Memphis, the Saba, who own Petra (which rebelled to them from Ptolemai) attack my two newly conquered cities with two armies of Apeleutheroi and Pantodapoi spawned by the rebellion! I have been paying them all that money, fondly imagining that due to my investment the Saba will pay me back or at least remain my allies while they backstabbed me. They didn't even strike me in my weak spot. The two cities had veteran 3-experience Principes, Triarii, Machimoi, Accensi, etc while their armies were composed of troops that routed in 5 seconds. Talk about AI stupidity...

Alliances are completely useless in RTW and any mod. Even if a relationship is highly useful they will still betray it in quick order.

also the "attack this faction" thing is broken too. its so F***King stupid. quite frankly id rather they just leave that stuff out instead of tricking us into spending 15000 to be backstabbed by your "allies"

the diplomacy in this game really GRINDS MY GEARS
