View Full Version : Guess my faction

General Appo

Havn´t seen one of these in a couple of weeks, and I always liked them, so I thought, why not.
Try and guess which faction I am. And of course, only one (1) guess per post. And obviously not like 5 post in a row then.
Also try to give a reason to your guess.

Btw, it is possible I mentioned parts of this campaign to a few select people in a remote area, if it so I would appreciate if those people didn´t immediately shout out the correct answer. Anyway, the year is 218 BC, and here we go:

The winner gets a ballon in customable colour. Well, except orange. But I think that´s just common sense.

I'd say Arche Seleukia. I've never seen them take Cyrene before.

Cyrene rebels to the AS.

Really a hard one.
Romani, Kart-Hadastim and Hai are not following their reform path, so they are AI.
Saba and Casse are too small to be a human player.
Baktria, Pontos, Arverni, KH, Sauromatae and Parthians are all beaten, so I guess that isn't you.
AS and Ptolemaoi allowed stupid rebellions, probably also not you.
That leaves Aedui, Sweboz, Makedonia, Saka and Getai.

I'm guessing Getai, because I never saw them in Asia before.

Makedonia...just a wild guess

I'd say Carthage

I wrote down all of the faction names on slips of paper and then randomly chose a slip of paper. It said Pontos. I guess my luck ran out, or else you're badly losing.

Lusotanann?

Your faction is the Romani (Setanus Populusque Romanus). I'll explain why.
In my campaigns Rome never does what the map shows. It is very hard for the "machine" to expand that far from their own Homelands. They usually expand by land, so I don't know why that Iberian province should join Rome without giving a good fight, actually it is one of the most rebelious provinces in Spain, so you must have conquered it.
I might be wrong.... :skull:

Arverni. They would probably be dead by now :)

Dumbass
09-27-2008, 16:27
Arverni as Galatia.

I am pretty sure you are starring as KH there.

09-27-2008, 17:12
Same here, I'm saying Koinon Hellenon.

Epeiros
I just know it

09-27-2008, 18:12
Romani. You conquered Numantia to be like Aemilianus.

Vasiliyi

It has to be AS. I've never seen it last that long in a regular campaign, nor it taking any of india

General Appo

Good guesses all...

Andronikos

I would say KH as Bosphoran kingdom.

Arverni in Ankyra? Or is it a migration game?

PONTOS!

Arverni in Ankyra? Or is it a migration game?
ankyra rebels to the arverni if i am not mistaken
ow by the way arche seleukia because its not that hard collapsed and baktria and pahlava are nearly defeated

Tellos Athenaios
09-27-2008, 22:35
You could equally well be Baktria or Phalava. It wouldn't be the first time you did some 'how far will this sure-death setup take me?' game, would it?

Alright, since we already have winner I´m just gonna go ahead and announce him.

It is.... da dum dum dum...it is.... Aemilius Paulus! Guess your luck still holds.
Here, have a balloon. :balloon2:

As AP guessed, I am playing as Pontos.
I have not in any way been beaten, but I am deliberately doing nothing ´cept building my infrastructure. Seriously, I ain´t doing anything at all.

A couple of notes.
Nikaia rebelled to the Getai after the Seleukids conquered it.
The Romani took Numantia along with southern Gaul and Emporion, until the Luso´s came along and kicked their asses. For some reason the Romans managed to hang on to Numantia.
The KH have gotten all their cities (except Rhodos) trough rebellion, after the Maks kicked them out of Greece. The Maks also destroyed the Epeirotes. Quite epic really. 230 BC the Epeirotes had 10(!) regions and was the Balkan superpower. 10 years later the Maks has wiped them out. Über Blitzkrieg Ownage.

The Seleukids are doing good, and have pretty much crushed the Pahlavas who never really moved anyway. The Baktrians were doing real good, with something like 10 regions and marching onto the Seleukid heartland, having already taken Persis and Gabai, until their biggest army got tossed in a Famous Battle just east of Susa and they lost it all in a few years.
Though to be honest they might as well just have taken Haomovarga and then nothing, and they would have looked the same.

Galatia did indeed rebel to the Arverni and Kyrene to the Seleukids.

Well, that´s it good folks, I might return someday with more for you.

Aemilius Paulus
09-27-2008, 23:36
Are you kidding? Pontos?!?! Who could have ever thought?!?

Have you even fought as much as a single battle in your campaign? How did you play a campaign for that long and not do anything? I'm guessing you played the campaign entirely for the purpose of creating this thread. Am I right?

Celtic_Punk

why did galatia rebel to averni? huh

Aemilius Paulus
09-27-2008, 23:47
why did galatia rebel to averni? huh

It actually happens very often, both in my campaigns as well as in other people's games. Galatians were Celts and apparently the EB team wrote some kind of script/code/whatever_you_call_it that stated that if Galatia should rebel, it will rebel to the Arverni. This happens all the time in EB. Crimean & Asia Minor cities rebel to Koinon Hellenon, Petra rebels to Saba, Qarthadastim cities in Iberia rebel to Lusotannan, etc.

what happens if the averni are dead? then just rebels?

Aemilius Paulus
09-28-2008, 00:17
what happens if the averni are dead? then just rebels?

Yeah. That's what happens when a faction that historically had ties/owned a certain territory is already destroyed. Some cities aren't scripted to rebel to any particular nation, such as the ones who have never been owned or affiliated with any of the EB factions. Sometimes though, you see the weirdest rebellions, like the one on the Faction progression thread where, unless I am mistaken, a Egyptian province owned by Ptolemies rebelled to Baktria.

General Appo
09-28-2008, 00:42
Galatia can also rebel to the Aedui, but IIRC only before/after a certain goverment level building has been built.

And no, I have fought exactly 3 battles. First 1 to take Sinope, then 2 against invading Seleukids, until I got a ceasefire with them. I took Trapezous by starving them out.
And no, I did not play this campaign just to make this thread, it´s just a nice little something on the side, slow, calm and easy, it always makes me relax and get a bit of a pitoresque cossy feeling what with my peaceful little kingdom with its amazing roads and farming, where everyone is happy and nothing special ever happens.

a completely inoffensive name
09-28-2008, 06:04
I knew you were playing Pontos because you mentioned it in the EB Tavern social group, I didn't want to ruin for it everyone else though by winning due to inside information.

General Appo
09-28-2008, 07:41
Well, for that I thank you. And yeah, I thought I might have mentioned it there, but I knew the Taverners are much to cool to cheat.

Aemilius Paulus
09-28-2008, 17:44
I took Trapezous by starving them out.

Hmmm, very interesting. I've never tried doing that. Too much devastation created and I have always thought that the enemy attacked just before surrendering. N'est-ce pas?

Qui. However, by then their units are about 50% depleted; you won't have to fight them in the cramped confines of the city; and they come out of the gate in single file, making a perfect target for enfilade fire by archers and slingers. Also, if the enemy (apart from the Eleutheroi) has an army stack nearby, it will almost always try to relieve the siege, even when the odds are against them.

General Appo
09-28-2008, 18:12
Indeed. In fact, I didn´t even have to fight them, they surrendered, despite not being all that outnumbered. Guess they just looked at the general life quality of the population under my rule, and then at their own general life quality.
After all, I only let smart people into my kingdom.

Publio Cornelio Escipión Africano Mayor

So your kingdom is just as the Roman Empire during Antoninus Pius??? Just remember that Marcus Aurelius suffered for the many invasions during his government. 30 years of peace made the barbarians think Rome was weak.
I've always thought the pinacle of the Empire were those 30 peaceful years, considered the empty years of roman history, because, as you said, NOTHING HAPPENED. But its decline started after that.
Could your Pontus kingdom be at the begining of its death??? Maybe you should roleplay and decide your next faction leader to be an agressive bastard with dreams of grandeur

I love roleplaying, but I am always agresive, I always play to win so I never lose sight of my objectives.
:skull:

General Appo
09-28-2008, 21:44
Well, the compsarison to the Roman Empire doesn´t really hold, especially as the Seleukids could crush me whenever they wanted. At the moment I have apart from FM´s only 6 units, 4 Levy Hoplites in Amaseia and 2 of the same in Trapezous. I could probably fight of one big Seleukid army, but any more, and I´m in real trouble.
I don´t really plan on ever expanding, I think I´ll just sit here until the end of time. My citizens well being is very important to me (in this particular campaign that is), and were to swiftly expand I fear I would be unable to provid adequate infrastructure to support the high living standards I wish all my citizens to experience.
Plus, the upkeep of a real army would bankrup me in just a few years.

But yeah, I can do that if someone really wants to play it. Doubtful.
