I would like to shift Pontos from an "eastern faction" to an "eastern greek faction." The basic switch like UI and family member portrait is easy with a switch in the culture file. But I still have problems where some of the unique Pontic buildings, like the statue of Mithridates, looks like the "default building" icon, which is a roman barracks, instead of the actual building icon.
Any hints? Thanks
You need to make sure that every building that Pontos has access to has an image in the East Greek ui buildings folder.

You have to copy the two TGA files from eastern building folder to the egyptian building folder. I believe that is the tavern/bardic circle building and rename the beginning of the file to egyptian_. Good luck!

Thanks to you both. You were both very helpful.
Question: will this affect the game in any way other than aesthetics?

If you mean by this: 'swapping pictures around'; then no.

True. I meant more broadly the culture shift. Would changing a faction's culture affect things other than just aesthetics. For example, if as Pontos I conquered a settlement held by the Seleukids, would there no longer be a culture penalty? I assume so.
If you change the culture as coded for the faction in the descr_sm_faction there might be a gameplay impact, I think. Some of the "special buildings/wonders" give boni only to certain cultures (e.g. Foreign Sea Trading Posts in Iberia giving boni only to Barbarians) etc., also the penalties when conquering a different culture's town might be lost.
This is only my assumption based on my poor knowledge of the game mechanics, perhaps the modding professionals here can give you a more fact-based answer ;)
