View Full Version : Post Patch Routing Units/Casualties
It seems to me that I'm taking far more casualties and units (mine) are routing more easily.
Example- Straightforward battle with French attacking me (English) uphill, head on for the most part, French UM/Spearmen against my Spearmen/ Feudal Seargents. 1 French flanking unit of Fuedal Knights that I met with Spearman, once again head on and outflanked with Royal knights.Overall French had more Cav, I had more Archers. Setting was Expert, Armor, Weaopon, Valor the same for both sides. Within 30 seconds my entire army was heading for the hills and casualties were about 2 to 1 in their favor.
I'm almost positive that I would have won this battle pre Patch.
Anyone else notice this?
Any thoughts?
Correct me if i'm wrong but under Expert the AI gets a +4 morale and a 30% increase in combat stats!?
That'll probably go a long way to explaining why you lost that battle.

People have spoken that cav is much more effective now. Maybe that was the reason.
Also, you say that the enemy had Spearmen and you had Feudal Sergeants. Well if it was SP then you would no longwer get the 2 Valours from the Spearmakers Workshop, now you get 0!!! That is a drop of 4 Morale to your spears.

Had a feeling about the Knights. Now we have uber Knights which in my opinion is more historical until aathe advent of disciplined Pikes and Longbows.
Re. Feudal Seargents, Does that mean that Spearmen/ UMs now outclass them? They certainly seem to outclass mine! Are they worth training? How does one now counter Knights? How do you like all these questions?
Knights certainly seem to carry that extra terrifying edge to them, which is certainly good in SP. Not sure how this will work out for MP, too early ro tell i suppose.
Now it'll be tough for any army to face knights without any knights themselves, or at least without some good quality spear units. Keeping them occupied with spears is probably the best idea or an equivalent cavalry unit until one can get support from elsewhere.
Missile units are fairly good against mounted opponents because they are essentially "bigger" targets and any casualties to a 40 man unit will effectively hurt it.

DOC I think you have gotten it in that last paragraph.
Cid, Feudal Sergeants are still better than Spearmen. Spearmen don't get the Valourbonus either. So the difference is equal to pre-patch times. But it just makes Chivalric Sergeants that much more effective as they should be.

Thanks
I think these changes are for the better actually. Knights should dominate the battlefield throughout most of the Middle Ages. Invasions will just have to require greater planning as will battles.
Kraxis is most likely right -- now that the valor bonus has been corrected, you'll see your spear units (and all of your units, due to external routing effects) routing much more often.
I would guess that your archers routed, starting a chain reaction in the rest of your army. Archers are nearly as useless as peasants. Low defense and low morale = instant rout.
