how do I make sure my generals get the spartan bodyguards? instead of athenian ones. I like the spartan look better, athenian ones look too fluffy. is it possible at all?

Possible yes. Check 'my facts' with the tutorials on this out there (both ORG and TWC ought to have a couple), but AFAIK you must cut one attribute from the original bodyguards and paste it on the Spartans. (EDIT: Can't recall the name of the actuall attribute, but it's obvious when you see it; and is IIRC listed among the opening comments by CA of the EDU.)

is it the line where it says "Name of the soldier model to use (from descr_models_battle.txt)" ?

that means I just need to replace the athenian with the spartan one right? is it that simple?

beware, i made an enquiry about this myself. The fact is the spartans will cost you money.

but then how did the faction leader + others get it in the beginning of the campaign? but then all the family members gets athenian ones afterward? I don't remember paying upkeep for those ones.

also, any chance you might tell me how you did it?

You are paying upgrades for those one. Because the generals are described in descr_strat (at game start) we can assign to them any unit we want. As new generals join your faction they are assigned a unit from the EDU that has the general_unit attribute.

It has already been explained to you how to do it. You need to change the "soldier" entry for the KH bodyguard unit in the EDU (search for "general_unit" and find the one that has faction ownership "greek_cities") so that it is the same as the one for the spartan hoplites. Your general bodyguards will then look like the spartan bodyguards, but have no upkeep.
