i dont know what the changes are, but i would like to (and i'm sure many other people would too)

so you guys that like to run experiments between units (or devs ;p) lets inform the world of what changes have taken place.

Well I noticed that Varangians now cost 500 florins as opposed to 550 before.

Seems all spears have been increased in cost. Some swords have also been hiked, Feudal MAA I think is one.

Alans cost 25 florins more now.

Most other cavalry have been lowered (most 50 florins), a good change.

Hopefully they havent changed the configuration of the stat files, but only the stats. With a little luck old Honestus can simply swap out the statfiles and we will have a full list of new units at the War Academy in no time.

Valour upgrades seem more expensive for all units (that may be because the base price has risen for most)

Armour and weapon too, apart from missile units where it is now cheaper.

Could one of you (kraxix,puzz3d,whoever has the patch and is looking at the stats changes) post all the changes right here?
What do some of good players such as wolf clan etc think about the changes? If I recall Magyar and kocmoc wanted some balance for some time now.

Right off the top of my head a 500 varangian guard is still not good enough. Remember Aums at 45o and even militia sergeants could beat guards. On the other hand perhaps 500 guards are good enough when looking at Byzantines as a whole. Their weak 500 guards are offset by the byz inf.

The TWA group is already efforting to update all the unit stats to reflect the changes. Soon to be included as well are the Missile Weapon Stats. These will be sortable alone and will show with each missile unit that corresponds.

Should be done within 24 hours, as I've delayed the release of the leagues to address this first.

Yes, but apparently buildings don't give any Valours anymore... While this makes the game more balanced, it makes a lot of buildings very redundant. Why not make it impossible to build those? Such as Byzantines actually going past Town Guard.

BTW... anymap, the Valourupgrade is now at 70%, making AUMs cost 578 florins at V2. So now it is quite well that the AUMs win at V2 while the Varangians win at V1...


But does anybody know what statchanges there has been made?

cav seems to do better in melee. after i got the patch i spent a long while online..as the hours went by i noticed many people were taking elite cav over alans/sgts. this might just be because of new costs.. but valour 1 lancers/chivs etc seem to do way more dmg than before (best example was a valour 1 lancer schooling 2 valour 2 spears in a head on melee) and already i heard quite a few moaning about elite cavs http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

for me the new costs on melee units and upgrading them are brutal since i used chivies and fmaa alot..but i'm also having lots of fun with elite cavalry, so it doesnt bother me. i pretty much like how it is now http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Sending Spearmen against Lancers is odd...

You have the choice of much better spears, and yet the choice falls on spearmen.

So is it confirmed that the only changes to unit stats are price changes? ie. attack, defence etc is as before? I should have held on to my old crusader file to check but made an oversight...

att 5, def 7, arm 9, char 8, hon 8!

Plus a 40 man cav unit!

Lancers went from 1100 florins to 800. It has the best combat stats, but it is still the most expensive unit. I think the reason they become so hard to stop is the battlefield honor they can add by chewing up lesser units. The Lancer is a very good unit, but it should be for 800 florins.

Everything is changed as far as MP unit balance is concerned. Some changes are not visible in the stats. Approach the patched game as though it's a new game, and enjoy the learning experience. I think the unit balance is much better than before. Try playing at 10K florins.

Strange. I thgouth the boards were down over the past few days, but apparently others have been posting just fine http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/redface.gif

Anyhoo, if you look at the crusader_build file, you'll notice that the upgrade field now looks like this:

"{}, {},{},{UPGRADE_VALOUR(1)}"

So you DO get a valor upgrade, but not until you reach the 'master' level.

kraxis, when all my feudal sgts are engaged and all i have to stop a lancer from flanking my line is 2 spears then i use them

before patch 200 valour 2 spears would smoke 40 valour 1 lancers especially if those spears were forming an L around the lancer like i was http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

its hard to afford all chivies, feudals and foots with the new prices...unless you you play 15k games or higher

**edit they also did not charge into my spears, i ran up and parked 1 in front of lancers and flanked with the other spears when lancers engaged my defending spears

no previous routers/general close to line and untouched/they routed with around 180 men left/those 2 spears took my whole army with it http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Sabotai, I know my post was a little, shall we say misunderstandable. It was not meant towards you (as you presented it as somebody was moaning about the 'problem'), but rather the vision of sending Spearmen towards Lancers.

Yeah, Dorkus... You must be #11 or 12 to tell me that. But at least it is corrected in this thread so nobody will go around and think of it wrong.
I only thought, after testing on a lot of buildings ranging to Guild, that the comment "Buildings now give the correct Valours" meant the same as Honours in STW. Meaning that every level gave 1 Valour. So when they didn't I was sure none did.
