Who do you think will win the world series in Major league baseball 2008?
Queue indignant (rightfully) posts from non-Americans about the arrogance of claiming being the best in the world when only 2 countries are invited....
NOW!
And I voted Gah!

Phillies of course, although I fully expect them to find a way to break my heart.
Again.
Well since my Twins collapsed in the very last game of the season [*sigh*], I'm rooting for the Cubs. It's about time they finally lifted their Curse.

I'm torn between the Cubs and the White Sox. It's only been 100 years since the last one for the Cubbies, but I'd also like to see Ken Griffey Jr. and Jim Thome get a championship. In a league full of prima-donnas and arrogant selfish dirtbags I'd like to see these two good people get to claim a championship.
Speaking of arrogant selfish dirtbags, wouldn't a World Series between the Red Sox & Dodgers be interesting? I'd like to see Manny Ramirez get beaned everytime he steps to the plate by his ex-teammates pitching staff for the way he connived (faked injury) & manipulated his way into forcing a trade. He should have been suspended the rest of the season, not rewarded.
@ Martok, I don't know how the Twins got as far as they did after the players they lost to free agency & trade, but Gardenhire deserves a raise & long term contract.

I'm hoping for the White Sox, followed by the Rays or Hiroshima Carps. Sox, 'cuz they've been my fav for roughly 1/3 of my life. If that can't happen, the Rays, because they've been so awful for so long, it'd be nice to see them finally win the series. And if not those two... THE CARP! I mean, c'mon, how can't you root for a team that's got the stones to name themselves after a dumb, smelly, bad tasting fish?

Im so happy this is the first time in a while the Sox farm system is paying dividens in a while. GO SOX GO SOX!!!

I'm voting Cubs out of loyalty.
I'm also looking forward to being the one guy rioting on my campus when they win.

Of course if the Dodgers lose before reaching the World Series, I'm sure Scott Boras will announce during game 4 that Manny has signed a 25 million a year contract with the Yankees.
I'm rooting for the Red Sox, but it seems an open field this year.

For what Gardy's managed to accomplish, he should be raised to godhood (or at least have a memorial statue erected in the new baseball stadium)! For him to have taken our team to the playoffs 4 out of the last 7 seasons -- and with one of the lowest-paid franchises in the league, no less -- is little short of miraculous.

Its surprising how well the Rays are doing. Considering its their first time in play off, I was guessing they'll get real nervous.

Poll should have been public so you can see that I'm the only one who voted for the rays...boston is about to go bye bye and the pittsburg phillies don't stand a chance...

Good job Sasaki:2thumbsup:. I hope you picked them where it really counts, one of the Las Vegas sports books. Man, the odds must have been lucrative. I had several Rays players on my fantasy team (Upton,Shields, Crawford), and they did well, but let me down the last two weeks of the regular season. Upton woke up in the playoffs, Crawford is back from injury and the Rays are pitching well plus playing great defense. This should be quite an entertaining World Series.

Wow, I'm surprised my last post came out as coherently as it did.
Anyway, yeah, keep talking smack about the Phillies. Nobody's given us any respect all year, not even when the season started when everybody said the Mets were going to take back what was theirs. Everybody had the Dodgers coming out of the NL as soon as they beat the Cubs and look what happened. So I hope everyone continues to pick against Philadelphia, because it's worked for the team all year long. :2thumbsup:

Alright. This begs the question- where's the one lucky jerk who took the Rays to make a world series birth way back in spring?
Sasaki Kojiro
10-20-2008, 15:15
The guy who does that political site www.538.com previously worked on a cutting edge baseball algorithm that predicted the rays would win over 90 games this year...crazy.
I think they're going to win the world series, look at last year where the rockies got all out of shape with the time of they had while the red sox were on a roll.
GeneralHankerchief
10-20-2008, 19:21
I was waiting for someone to make that point. I would be really worried if that happened with the Sox this year... but then the Rays won.
They're not on a roll. They almost botched the ALCS before scrambling to win Game 7 in front of their home crowd. In their past three games they are 1-2. So what we have here is a somewhat beat team with not too much momentum playing a very well-rested Phillies team, who have doused two "hot" teams in a row in the Dodgers and Brewers anyway, so this really doesn't matter. :smash:
At this point I would have to root for the Phillies. Philadelphia has endured much sports pain over the past 25 years.

RIP 2008 Red Sox
You were an interesting bunch, and I have no regrets about kicking Manny to the curb, but injuries finally caught up with you and the Rays (gulp) were the better team. You can only go to the comeback well so many times before it goes dry.
It'll be hard to do, but I might root for the Rays, the worst to first angle might be too hard to resist. Of course Philadelphia fans (Hockey) did boo Palin (of course they also famously booed Santa Claus) so I don't know. Also the thought of a Championship Banner hanging in that Neon atrocity the Rays call a baseball field is weird.
Well at least there's the Patriots (Brady is what?. . .oh dear). :laugh4:

Good sir, what do you mean "the Santa"? If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were implying that there's somehow more than one. Of course, that's impossible since that would mean that the "Santas" were fake. And we know Santa can't be fake. Right? Right?...

I'm really glad to know what this feels like for a change. :laugh4: See you all at the parade tomorrow!
