I wonder if they'll put them in, and also, what they'd be...
I think maybe the Battle of Waterloo would be good.
The Crimean war would be good, but it's a bit late considering... Re-enact the charge of the light brigade for fun, just to see horses flung into the sky by cannonballs.

Not gonna be included this time out.
Yeah, CA has already said there will be no historical battles in Empire. :juggle2:

Really? Ah, too bad.
Borodino would be a must. Waterloo, of course. Maybe something lesser known...Gangut, Poltava, Suvurov's Switzerland campaign? ;)
But that means little.....we can still create our custom battles. If I've understood it all properly, I think we'll have a nice and easy to use battle-editor and an improved custom battle creator this time around.

If this is the case then I hope it would be possible to download some great use created historic battles. With a decent enough battle-editor in place we could hopefully see most battles of the period recreated. A library of user-created downloadable historic battles will be great because almost every battle of the period will get made eventually. From Waterloo all the way down to minor skirmishes that happened between a few hundred people on a foggy day that no one but the most avid history buff remembers :laugh4:
If CA do include a way of making our own historical battles it will be a smart move for them. It would allow for a greater variety and number of battles without them having to do any of the work at all.

Yeah, the "battle-editor and improved custom battle creator" more than makes up for any lack of historical battles included with Empires.

Incidentally, it looks like I may have to eat my words about historical battles not being included. (Check out the new Gamespot interview (http://uk.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/empiretotalwar/news.html?sid=6198656&om_act=convert&om_clk=newsfeatures&tag=newsfeatures;title;1).)
Battle of Narva/Poltava. Battle of Waterloo, battle of gangut. but there will no be a historical battles :((:(:(

I tried to organize an Historical Battles contest once. I believe it was for Rome, and was just a one on one affair. Only two people showed up and actually fought, and so we just kind of let it go.
However, the idea still appeals to me. Anyone else?

Hello Tomi. If I buy ETW I'll show up :beam:
If the battle editor is good we might even be able to make some nice scenarios.

Hi CB :beam:
Thanks!
I’m certain that you would show, being possibly the most dependable player in all Total War
Crossing my fingers that the game proves out, and we can do this thing.

That sounds a lot of fun! If the included battle editor is really good maybe it would make sense to start a competition to see who can produce the best historical scenarios.
There could be several categories, most challenging battle, most historically accurate, most fun to play, things like that.
I for one would love it if there was a section on the Org where I could go to browse the latest historical fights created by the talented people we have here.

I'll have to see how ETW plays, but if all is well, then I'll certainly give it a whirl, depending on the rules.

I too would like to fight a historical battle online. Hoping that E:TW holds its mettle we shall fight.
I can imagine the scenarios that are going to be cooked up* :laugh4:
*Probably involving elephants. And cannons...

Well prehaps we could mod historical battles if CA won't include them.

Did you even read the thread, Graal? :laugh4:

If the there are no official Historical Battles (which I believe there will be), constructing them will be really rather straight forward. All that is needed is the map location ID (in the game), specified units, and battlefield conditions, all reasonably historically accurate. The figures should not be at all difficult to come by for this era especially. The catch is in the organization, and the scoring.
What I will be “proposing” is basically an Org forum based, Battle of the Month Club. Interested parties will be able to register there, read the rules, discuss problems, receive Battle assignments, negotiate arrangements, report, and see the results of the contest to-date.
If CA is true to form there will be individual player Battles, and multi-partner Battles also. That means the honors would have to be for the best score of a particular Faction in a particular Battle, win or loose. This (the win or loose) needs to be, because Historical Battles are rarely even in components or in battlefield advantages. So some situations may very well have a side that will always loose. This of course doesn’t mean that they didn’t fight valiantly or aren’t great generals, it means that we must arrange a system that takes this possibility into account.
The highest score for a given category of accomplishment "could" receive an Org badge that commemorates the event, but remember that this is still only a proposal, and has not yet been authorized by the powers that be.
Plus, we don’t yet know what the game will have in the way of ladders and other competitive comparison built-ins. But if there is nothing competing with what we have above, then I’ll make proper application to get it done
Tomisama, I like the way you talk :2thumbsup:
Hopefully CA introduces a 3D scenario editor, because it could really add a lot to the game, especially fan-made historic battle scenarios.
