View Full Version : Creative Assembly Crusades in patch
The first crusade I saw today after installing the patch and starting a new game, was one headed for one of the "russian area" provinces. Against the far eastern part of the map. It was a crusade from germany. It went directly west though my provinces. Anyone else have any crusades not going the right way still?

Oh yea add to this, when I build the master bowyer, and suddenly in that province i cannot build crossbows of any kind, arblasters of any kind, or longbowmen(playing as english) I can only with a master bowyer and all the previous upgrades obviously, build regular archers.
i would suggest restarting a new campaign with the patch and not continuing from an old saved game.

Well heres something that is fixed in the patch then. Units now have proper adherance to the timeline. I modded a province in early with everything level4, fortress & uni etc. , made all units avaliable to english (incl. goths, footknights, gendarmes etc.) made the early period 1050, high 1051 and late 1052. Anyway, at the start - very little avaliable, next turn 1551 - chiv knights, longbows and some crossbows etc., 1052 - goths, gunpowder units etc.
In other words this now works where it didn't before, if you don't like it, start your game in the late period.

Yes this is a great fix, i`ve added russia to the early period and was pissed that they were getting late units in the 1000s, its not until now i find it is a bug, seems like restarting is a hussle but not too much a "compromise" as seeing all the new fixes from the start hehehehe.

Yea as I said, "The first crusade I saw today after installing the patch and starting a new game". I did start a brand new game, no continuing
Yep. Seen the same thing. Had a Crusade run west away from its target when I was going to hammer it with a stack. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

The bug to do with crusade is to fix the fact that they go back and forth over two regions. The fact that a crusade head west when it target is to the east is not a bug. I don't know what the manual says or where you heard it from, but crusades are not required to take the quickest route, it just have to make progress, going away from the target geographicly doesn't not mean it is going further away in terms of how many turns it'll take to get to the target.

So basically the computer can take whatever route it wants, but the player's crusade has to go strait to the province? Cuz I know it never lets me move in opposite directions. And as far as the correct timeline, then why was I able to build the longbow for several years, then suddenly I was unable to build anything but regular archers?

Nah, Gil's not saying that. He's saying that a movement away from the targe-province might make for a shorter trip in the long run because of the way provinces fit together.
If the AI can move the crusade that way, then the player can too. Look carefully at the map and I bet you'll see that by moving west on space the crusade can find a route to the target-province that is a shorter number of steps than if it headed due east.

"Russian Area" provinces are historically accurate destinations for "Crusades".

I think eat cold steel, (not gil, though their avatars do look similar), was saying that its possible for the computers to head in the opposite direction for the sake of ports and travel by sea. Perhaps by the twisting design of provinces as well, (but I would assume that the original poster would've been able to see this, and take it into account).
Anyway, even if crusades to russia are historically accurate, you must be able to understand the confusion of the original poster when the crusade was heading WEST through his lands, (seemingly away from Russia, which by most maps of Europe, is in the East).
