Hi,

might sound like a stupid qu. but how do i tell that my EB is actually running....

I'll explain I have been playin BI for some time so please excuse me but I loaded EB onto RTW & all seemed fine after the installation, i also loaded the map reader which u can open seperately & see the different mercenaries available in diff areas etc.
i start up Eb from my start menu & it appears to be RTW (i havent been playin long) i am playin the brutii & cant see much difference is there an easy way to be sure i'm actually playin EB & not RTW!? lol

sorry to be stupid, i'm just wondering if its all installed properly.:help:

i did start readin one of the guides earlier but couldnt see an obvious thing to look for:oops:

If you are playing the Brutii then you are not playing EB. EB only has one Roman faction.

The most likely thing is that you've installed EB in the wrong location. You'll need to uninstall it and reinstall making special care that you install it into the folder that contains the file RomeTW.exe. You should also install the Trivial Script that comes with the EB1.1 installation. This will install shortcuts that you will use to start the game (you don't use the RTW shortcuts).

you probably did what I did. instead of changing the install location to where CA installs RTW by default (programfiles) you installed it where EB has it on the default.

on a related note, why does the installer say "WE DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU INSTALL IT TO THE PROGRAM FILES" or w/e... is that for vista?

thanks guys, i'll try a re-install, thinking about it i think i tried to install the provincial campaign without sucess (didnt expect to work cos i was patched to 1.5) but i dont think i removed it. this might be why it said it couldnt find a valid version of RTW & i had to browse to what i thought was the right location.

on the 'dont install to program files' i think i read just know (while skim readin) that this was to protect your p.c from unlicensed downloads or somethin, i'll try & post a quote / link

if that does not work, try removing RTW and EB completely from ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS- this worked for me when i was having difficulty with the Will of the Basileus EB mod.

thanks guys i might have to reload it all to be sure (but to be honest its been a while since i played RTW & i'm havin fun at mo...lol)

celtic punk for your info - 1) Conform yourself to the security model: don't install softwar such as games in the C:\Program Files\ directory, or any of its subdirectories. The correct root folder for any softwar that wishes to use/store settings from/to a separate file always begins with the adress of your User Account. Therefore the left-most part of your install destination should then read "C:\Users\[Your Account Name]", with [Your Account Name] being the name of your account. So the path might look like.: "C:\Users\Admin" or "C:\Users\John Smith". Warning: this means that if you happen to have installed RTW inside the program folders (for instance you have applied the default suggestion its installer comes up with) you will have to either make a back up of this install inside your preferred subfolder at your account, or you will have to re-install RTW to this location.

Newer games that know how Vista operates should be able to be installed under Program Files (they will rather bloat everyone's Documents and Settings folders instead of keeping in the space you define upon installation), but RTW is not among them. RTW may turn out to not find files it needs, and savegames (and validation results, I might add) may be lost in Vista's nigh-inscrutable bowels.

It is safer, and tidier, to install games and other applications in own folders so that you can clear out any M$ crap and install fresh when you one day find your computer working like a slug.

Ancient games(like fallout) don't even start on Vista, especially if in program files.

Gotta do over 9000 tweaks til it works.

I'm using Vista and every single game (including EB) in the Program Files is working just fine.

EB works with Vista 99,9% of the time, it just doesn't always. Also, if you like minimods or self-modding it is definately advised to install elsewhere.
