Loved MTW1 - Total MTW2 newbie - help if you'd be so kind?

Hi folks, I loved MTW to death but for a long list of reasons, have only now installed virgin MTW2 which I bought back when it was new. Some questions:

1) Why does this TotalWar.org site seem to have almost nothing about vanilla MTW2? This forum topic room is the best approximation I could find; the site seems to be 90% mods. Is everyone somehow upgraded to Kingdoms? Maybe I'm just growing senile, but presume I know nothing except I bought MTW2 when it was brand new. And that's it. (a.k.a. where's the general MTW2 room?)

2) How do I tell my current patch version, and how do I get patched?

If it takes logging onto MP, fwiw, I've always had trouble with Gamespy across the years... I've never pirated, but if you only by a Gamespy game every 2 years, and it's entirely unhelpful about your user ID, password, email, or whatever being out of sync, and stops you from updating through a game's MP (I always play solo), it's a huge PITA. :inquisitive:

Here is the site for the patches: http://www.totalwar.com/us/support/supportmedievalii.html

That will give you 1.2 and 1.3 patch without upgrading to Kingdoms. You will know your version by the title screen and 1.0 would be the "virgin" version. You do have to install 1.2 before 1.3 the instructions are there on the site.

Thanks brother but before we start, I do not see "1.0" on the main screen. My son installed MTW2 for me many many months ago but does not remember what he did, since he's moved on. Where exactly should I see the current version - does 1.0 indeed state it's 1.0 somewhere?

main menu->options and in the upper right corner you should see the version number

I guess it's about time everyone got bored with Vanilla... I've played 2 years of Vanilla and now I'm enjoying mods. For Vanilla a lot of discussion can be found in the strategy guide section.

I am seeing 1.02 on the Options page. Is this actually 1.2?
