View Full Version : College Football
I've been lazy on these forums lately, and I'm pissed at Strike for not starting a college football thread.
So, what do you all think? This weekend was crazy. Texas beat Oklahoma, Florida beat LSU, Oklahoma State beat Missouri, and PSU utterly destroyed Wisconsin. I know a missed a bunch, but those are just a couple.
Personally, since I go to Penn State, that made the entire weekend glorious. If we beat OSU, I honestly think we could make it to the Rose Bowl at the least, and maybe the national championship.
Any other fans on here?

Well I haven't started one because I've been trying to find and kill our good awful kicker. I fear that better teams will take a page out of Nebraska's book and play keep away from us. Not to mention we always lose one game we should win oh and our secondary is crappy. Its a typical Tech season with a better offense. Im heading down to college station next week to meet up with some buddies and watch the game. I fear trap no matter how bad A&M are this year.
I was so excited after the K-State game we were clicking and everything was working. I'm hoping this game was just a fluke but who knows.

A whole lot of optimism here in East Lansing as the Spartans are looking like they've made improvements and are winning the games they are capable of winning. This weekend the opponent is Ohio State, which has been poor on offense lately.
So many people are pulling for an upset that OSU seems like the underdog. I'm more pessimistic about this, as OSU utterly dominated MSU last year in Columbus outside of some mistakes at the end of the game. I just hope MSU does not get embarrassed and puts up a good fight, enough to keep the mental health of the team strong.
And speaking of embarrassment, I'm really hoping Kush's Penn State hits U of M with the pain train this weekend.

I'm very disappointed in LSU. Just an FYI, I hate the Gators, as every FSU fan should.
Unfortunately Bowden can't ever seem to get everything right, and we lose a couple games we shouldn't. Our players also have very bad academics. Shameful.
I'm liking Texas and Penn State. FSU could win something. I hope.
I'm pretty confident Texas or Alabama is going to lose and psu will make the national championship. Hell, even if we simply don't lose to Indiana, Iowa, and Michigan state we will atleast make the rose bowl. A pretty good season if you ask me.

Well, most schools schedule such games too, so it is not just Penn State. These games give the team a chance to tune up for the real games later. Also, the small school like it for the $$$$ they get and their team gets to play in front of the crowd larger than the rest of their season (or two or three) combined.

Tech beat UND 38-13 but I'm still upset
some likes
-Potts was VERY accuarte
-The run D was in tip top form
-Bird, Duncan, and Henley are playmakers in the front 7
-I like the new core Potts has around him
-ST was really impressive, flying to the ball
Some dislikes
-Potts threw 3 picks agianst a team made up of what I thought were midgets he looked very rushed at times and needs to settle down
-Our WRs had 7 drops yesterday, with an offense like ours 7 drops will kill you
-Our rush blocking was horrunders we had a total of like 50 yards on the ground agianst a team that was half our size not good when we have to play UT in 2 weeks
-Our pass D looked plain bad. We lost 3 starters and it shows
Overall The team looked flat and confused. Ruffin needs to shore up the pass D or the Big XII will eat us alive. Hopefully the team was looking ahead but I fear we could be cellar dellwers this year if Potts doesn't calm down.

Penn State wasn't sitting on anything. Iowa snuffed Penn State's momentum in the 2nd quarter by putting the Lions in terrible field position (coupled with some careless, ill-timed penalties) and they plugged away all game long to gain the lead. Penn State gots some bad breaks and that roughing the kicker penalty late in the game looked bogus from the stands (they woudn't show a replay of it in the stadium), but Iowa worked for that win. Whiched sucked to watch sitting for 3 1/2 hours in constant rain and then getting home at 5am.

Ice, my poncho protected me enough that I was only uncomfortably wet but not soaked like you must have been. Still, I did a complete change of clothes once we got back to the van for the drive home.
It sucked that we lost, but there is nothing like a big game atmosphere, so it was worth it from that perspective. A win makes adverse weather conditions much more tolerable. I thought Penn State has been way over-ranked this year, so their drop to 15th is about where I thought they should have been in the first place. Anyway, I grow tired of Iowa and Michigan somehow managing to beat us most years even in those seasons when we have a far better team. :wall:
BTW Ice, did you notice any beefed up security going into the stadium? They announced on the radio about heading in earlier than normal due to stepped up security at the Penn State game (and apparently several other major college games too). My dad notice a few unusual vehicles in the stadium area in the early afternoon, but when we entered the stadium, there was no extra security checks at our entry gate.

I was lucky enough (wise?) to buy a rain poncho before the game. It kept my shirt fairly dry along with the top of my pants. I was still soaked though.

Wow, what an amazingly stupid last series of plays by the Huskies tonight.
17 all, UW on their own 9 yard line with 1:20 left in the game, they decide to run it. Again and again, and using no time outs.
So you'd think they'd be trying to go into overtime, but they use a hurry up offense so they can run the ball again quicker. And so they get to 4th and 1 left and have to punt with :12 seconds left.
And then ASU, with five seconds left, throws a 50 yard TD pass. The receiver was completely uncovered - the UW defense was in heavy prevent mode and still left two guys way open.
Wow, they deserve to lose for such stupidity. :dizzy2:
